Invalid Cd Key ???
 

Hello,

some weeks ago i bought RTCW from an old friend, who never played online...
So it's definetely a valid CD Key - i played some weeks, and everything worked fine!
But the last days and ...today... I often got "invalid cd key" I tried many things...

erased the key file...and typed it in again in options-enter cd key!
a new file was generated, bur nevertheless I get: "Invalid CD KEY"!

This is impossible, i have the original cd at home...

I don't know what to do...`? can somebody help me...

If the question should be wrong here, please tell me, who i can ask!!

Go to your RTCW "Main" folder (For Me It's C:\Program Files\Return to Castle Wolfenstein\Main) and look for a file called "rtcwkey". Try right clicking it and go to properties. Now mark it as "Read Only". Now see of you still get the same error. :)

it probably were he got it.. some stores have the cd's out so you can seee the cd keys. someone probably wrote it down and is now using it so just go get a new cd key

OK...I tried all your hints! (even 4. from the link u gave me)

nothing works...
Friday the key was valid!
Sometimes it is invalid and after an hour it is valid...hmmmmmmmm...

If someone else would use my key, there would not come: invalid cd key, or?
I think there would come: Duplicate CD Key...

Does anybody know how to get (buy) a new key? (In Germany i cannot buy it.. *g*)


In RTCW the key doesnot work, too, so the master server does not accept it!
any tips?

PS. when i enter the key in RTCW it is accepted!

I think I remember, that if someone is online with your CD Key, and they are on the same server as you, you will both be kicked from Punkbuster for Duplicate GUID/CD Key. I'll search around a bit more to see if I can find any thing else on this problem. :thumbsup:

Make sure you don't have a "rtcwkey" file in your WildWest directory
NOTE: Don't ever enter your CD key from within WildWest, always do it when running
standard wolf (this is true for all RtCW mods)

Might not be your problem, but I do remeber this issue when players enter their
CD key from within WildWest.
(Note: in version 1.6 I have removed the option to enter your CD key from within the mod)
