New Town textures

1 Attachment(s)
Hey all

Just thought I'd let you know what I've been wasting my time on for the last week..

I've remade all the textures in the town map.. they are all now hi-res, with new
wood textures (see attached pic)
I know what you're thinking.. some systems woun't be able to handle the increase in
texture size, but I've tested it, and it still looks ok at picmip 3, so I may increase
the PB settings to allow for this higher picmip value.

btw, I can still run my system at maximum detail with 32bit textures & my fps don't
drop below my 43fps cap :)

Now, I'm working on TownII (lockdown) based on town, but set after the el-drab bank
raid, where the town has been re-inforced with extra defences to keep them thar
pesky bandits out (also helps with vis ;)) and I'm working on that new canon entity
I'm thinking of having a horse drawn canon, which the bandits escort to the
town, and is used to blow the new security gates to enable access to the town.

As for a main objective I'm looking at the possibility of doing what they have done in ET,
and having the bandits take several objectives (gold) to a waiting carridge & then
escort it out of town... what do you guys think of this idea ?

Now my biggest problem is.. do I create this new stuff for 1.4, or release 1.4 as it is,
and have these new things as a further update in the future .. maybe even
for WildWest II (Return to the WildWest) RtWW ;)

nice but...

As much as I'd like to see this, I've got a bunch of folks chomping at the bit for the new upgrade release of 1.4. how much longer would these extras (which sound great) take? I'd hate to have folks loose interest waiting and waiting.

What do ya say to releasing the 1.4 then we can then start fleshing out what to do w/ next version?

Also how much can come w/ a map release afterwards? could the canon code be a part of the map? or could the new map have the ww mod updates embedded in it? Just food for thought.

You'll have Gringo's map and the Updated Town map. Hopefully, you updated the sample server cfg file to include CTF games . Plus all the new features that most of the world hasn't seen yet. And an improved install (No RtCW pre-install needed?)

Having played the old version recently, I think it is better to release sooner rather than later. Plus you want to have the flexibility of doing town II right I think. Let the games begin and then in 2 and 4 and 6 months hopefully we'll have a few more maps to add...

I recently stumbled across the full by-line for the game. Nice writing! It makes a good story and changes my view of some of the maps which seem to be inching towards a comical revenge cycle.

It would be nice to see this on an opening splash with some appropriate music...
"Set in the later half of the 19th century around the Western states of America bordering Mexico. A land plagued with disputes, lawlessness, gunfights and some of that periods most gruesome characters. An ex-Mexican army captain turned bandit, driven by a personal vendetta, has formed a mob of some of the most ruthless Mexican bandits to sweep a reign of terror through the land."

A couple more maps on the serious side of the story would be good... (I love the humor too. Both Style and Flash are good. Sort of like Batman 1 had style vs Governer Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze.)

And I /like/ this screen shot:http://www2.fileplanet.com/images/11...15231ss_sm.jpg
