Re: Were Is The Mine

well it's getting some major reconstruction (and hew's still at it) so it'll probably not be in the 1.6 release.

Re: Were Is The Mine

I don't understand what was wrong with the original mine map. I know the dev team said it was unfair, and that some things needed changed, but i have asked people that played the original, they all tell me it was fine the way it was.

Now we are being told that it will not be released in 1.6, nor have any of the testers ever tested it. :(

What was so bad about it that it needed changed?

Bring back mine asap please.

The Mine map should be in 1.7 along with female skins. I hope it gets "fixed" soon...

well we added some new weapons and features with 1.5 and a few other tweeks. Can you imagine trying to get past the mine entrance (that nice tight bottleneck) if there was say a gatling with a sherif and a doctor feeding him ammo and health? thats right at crew of 3 could hold of as many bandits as possible. So we've been making changes to make it more assaultable. Gringo added an interesting little bit, and hew's decieded that he's redecorating the mine tunnels (the bit he's got is nice) but we are working on all the stuff for the 1.6 release and mine would take hew too long for this release.
but the next version will have the new and improved mine map back.
I promiss.
...
I think.
...
er um I hope :D

I remember playing Mine when it was in play and it had gatling guns soldiers,Sheriffs, and medics then.I think 1.5 guns are less accurate now then they were back then and we managed to get through the bottleneck.Nothing a well placed nade flurry wouldnt fix.It would have been real nice if we could have at least tried it out with 1.6.Heck even if it is as unbalanced now as you say i still think most people would take the good with the bad to just have another map in circulation until 1.7 when it could then be polished.I really miss the mine map :(

El Dragon August 8th, 2004 09:13 AM

Re: Were Is The Mine

correct, you now can't snipe with the henery or other riffles, which makes for more close actions (and lots of fun) but the mine entrance (as in original) had that rather long entrance tunnel and a group of 3 cowboys at the cross road tunnel could hold off as many bandits as ya could put together. the roof is too low to toss nades too far and moltovs would explode on the ceiling. with that as the only way to get into the mines, it would be imposible to get past that point.

(and you though getting past the bridge on town was tough....)

well it's in the old pk3 file (if you folks saved your old version) I'm not sure if you can mix that with the 1.5 pk3's so I'll have to ask hew...

if it will work I'll post a link to the old pk3, but I'm thinking it'll get old really fast with it's old setup and the new weapons....

I already made a PK3 file with all the old mine map stuff, with Queeg's help. It is 17 mb, but has a few clinkers in it, not many, but a few missing textures/shaders I can't seem to resolve.

I did not want to release it just yet until we talked about it. But, with Hewster gone, and you gone, and Queeg gone, it was hard to get hold of anyone.

Iggy, this is probably common knowledge, but I'm just trying to help...Keep in mind that the name of a shader isn't necessarily the name of the actual image file. It could be just the name in the shader, pointing to a different texture. :)

Whats this about Queeg gone? Gone where? I notice he's not in the moderators list anymore.

Anyways I'd thought about that with the shaders and I did manage to convert one of the old maps before using the new shaders but how I did it escapes me. I'll have a play about this week and see what I can come up with.

Thanks Man, I ran into Queeg on my TS last night, and we think it is the shader thing like you said. It is looking for a bunch of kb_smoke stuff in one of the shaders, which I think it uses to draw the torches. It is the bandit campfire and the lower cavern torches that are goofed up.

I think I found the campfire one when re-mapping the valley. Check what I used.

I personally would rather you be patient, than releasing the old version of mine,
I intend mine to be released with 1.6.

making 3rd party maps that players won't have unless they download will cause frustration
for newer players.

BTW, if your clever you could make the original mine map work with existing
textures that are avalible in 1.6, and the download could be very small (under 2Mb)

Re: Were Is The Mine

tested the pk3 m8, as far as me,skins, bong, hacko, and goony are concerned
no textures missing

i allso compared it with 1.12 (original mine map) and lighting with gl extentions is the same
so if u put vertex lighting on ... u cant see the bandit / cowboy model any more because its too dark , 2nd yet vital in gl_ extention it kinda looks like doom3 (all dark)

ill email the entire team developers/testers with my results
