Is DOW 2 Destructive?

OK, so me and my freinds were debating on what game was more destructive by all means:
Mercenaries 2 or DOW 2?

Here's the load down:
DOW 2 has massive armies that duke it out in now destructible enviroments, while it's new amazing graphics engine allow stuff like orbital bombardment or explosions seem almost real.

Mercenaries 2 has billions of object to completely level. You can destroy anything. Like DOW 2, Mercenaries has a amazing graphics engine which makes everything more realistic.

My vote goes to Mercenaries. Just face it. DOW 2 destructiveness 6/10
Mercinaries destructiveness 10/10. I love DOW, but since my freind wanted to know what more 'explosive', i've decided to make this thread.

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

how can you take a poll like this when the game isn't even out yet?

Dude, screenies and videos. That can sum it up.

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

Have you played the first mercenaries? Almost every building/vehicle/object can be destroyed. Even though DOW2 is adding destructable objects I think mercenaries 2 will definatly have a more destructable enviroment compared to DOW2. So my vote goes to mercenaries 2.

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

Well to be honest, we don't know how destructible dow will be yet.

I say the most destructible game to this date is red faction. But to your poll

DOW is an RTS while mercenaries is not. And generally RTS tend to be on the lower scale of destructivness well maybe with the exception of spring, since map staticity is important to some level just changing it would have a negative effect on the gameplay.
While a game like mercenaries can allow itself to be more destructive.

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

This is a lesson learned for all of us: The more explosions, the cooler the game (not exactly better).

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

This is like comparing apples and oranges. DoW 2 is an RTS and Mercenaries 2 is an FPS, the only thing similar is that each involves war.

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

Last note: It's not about what type of game they are, it's all about explosion factor. Just remember: 50% of the game is based off of game play, the 50% is literally explosions and death. Honestly you really can't deny that factor. If you did, whay the hell would you be playing manly video games?

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

True, and in that case I choose DOW2 because more blood and explosions. Like the orbital strike. And why have they made it so the sync kills only leave whole bodies? Especially when the Bloodthirster cuts people in half.

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

Because Relic is lazy. :D
Dude, you started this on what game was most destructive, not most explosive... and DoW2 isnt out yet, so we really cant judge what a full scale war is going to do to the landscape yet, sooo, stalemate?

Mitch Connor August 23rd, 2008 07:54 AM

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

I just want to see more carnage from big battles, just whole bodies doesn't do any justice to the big battle feel. Especially when your guys get hit by artillery, I mean come on you expect me to believe that those guys would be whole bodies after getting hit by a 50mm shell? No they wouldn't be, there'd be guts and severed heads everywhere. That's what I'm talking bout!!

sHalloW Bay August 23rd, 2008 07:57 AM

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

Yea, I agree with you there, Relic was dropping the ball on kills and such. I mean, sync kills were wonderful things to add to the game, but I noticed that some didn't do physics any justice. Like the necron warrior sync, he vaporizes his enemy to kill him, the douchebag pops up a second later, lying on the ground eating potato chips! [not really, but you get my point]
And when the tomb spyder pierces the dreadnought, I want to see that bastard get ripped out of that thing. Anybody see what we're talking about?

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

I feel you man, if they're going to make it rated M, then at least do the gore some justice. I want to see an assault marine chainsaw an ork's head off.

EyeStabba August 23rd, 2008 10:39 AM

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

Now you're just pissing on details... Why don't you immediately ask Relic to have every soldier make different movements, because in real life they wouldn't all move the same...
It's hard to do what you guys describe, else don't you think they might have done it?

Uh excuse me, but since when?
Carnage is most of the content in games like GTA etc, but not dow really.
While it's nice eye candy, I know lot's of people would have no problem at all if it wasn't as visceral as it already is.

Also think about games like the sims. Truly explosions on every corner.

60% of a game is it's playability.
40% is the rest, beginning with story ending with looks.

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

You misunderstood, I meant adding body parts not whole bodies. They would still be press-made (they all look the same) but there would be variations. Say a guardsmen gets chopped by a berserker in melee, he would lose an arm and it'd just be lying there. Not like it is now where a soldier takes a ton of damage and his body is in tact.

firstly, a screenshot can only show so much and tbh they have not really posted that many screenshots to piece the game up,
secondly, there is like one video of DOW II in action and it has not showed DOWII with destructable evironments

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

yes it does.
it shows a building collapsing
and a bridge bein blown

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

i dont think we have seen enough of dow2 to make any assumption on how destructable it is yet a few shots and vid snips are fuck all to go on to get any real feeling on it you would need to see the same building or bridge being blown up by 8 or 9 different explosions from different angles i meen do u know what happens when it is hit by a heavy plasma blast? no, or a lascannon? no we dont have enough info to say one way or the other.

Mitch Connor September 11th, 2008 12:23 PM

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

Very valid statement Sekmet, we don't really have enough to go off of for the time being. Seeing as how one game is out and the other is still in production.

No offense good sir, but where were you when this happen on the DoW General Yib-Yab (Off Topic) thread "DoW 2 Info"? Because this sort of thing happened a lot in that one with SC2 vs DoW2.

Re: Is DOW 2 Destructive?

Dow 2 hands down.

Two words.

ORBITAL BOMBARDMENT.

If such a thing was real even the roaches won't live.
