Yeah, but most of the work has been done (Skeletons, animations, voices, models) unless it's a huge change from DOW, all they have to do is give them hi-res textures which take advantage of DX10, maybe replace a few with higher poly models (anyone know what the current poly count for an IG is?) and BAM! 9 races in the first game. This seems like the most logical approach to DOW2, If you think about THQ wanting to take advantage of the warhammer hype and spend as little time and money on the project as possible. Then they can focus on Nids and solid game play with nobody whining about balance. |
Re: DOW 2 confirmed? Quote:
Trust me, textures wouldn't save it by far. AndI also count among the people that want it to go back to 4 races only. Mainly because I want to see it be competitive. So let's look at a possible rundown. Marines - yes - for very simple reasons CSM - exactly the same as well as a need for an evil side Nids - people want them too much One more "good" side. Probably eldar again. |
Re: DOW 2 confirmed? (coughs) *guard* either that or a neutral like orks (don't even try to hit me with the orks are evil argument, all they want to do is fight) Honestly, I find the concept of including the IG completely ridiculous. Just because they don't sell out as much as the SMs doesn't mean that they are any less interesting. As a matter of fact, out of all the W40k races, CSM is by far the least seen in battle. Most high ranking imperial commanders don't even know they exist. so to me, the only logical patter (if there has to be four races) is: 1.Space Marines (They are the balanced race, they are generic, sold out and attract customers so they have to be in it because all THQ cares about is money.) 2. Trynids. (The close-combat race,)) 3. Chaos (the evil race with the most powerful lone units, although few in number, and most of the horde consisting of mostly mutants/heretics) 4. Guard (the shooty race) and if a 5th is to be added it should be eldar (stealth and speed race) and the 6th - Necrons (slow and persistent) and once you get to 7th and 8th you start repeating; you now get another shooty race (tau) and another close combat race (orks) and thats all that is really important. |
Re: DOW 2 confirmed? If I had it my way.... DOW2 would be more like Supreme Commander in the sense of scale. And You could only choose a race, not all the little factions of each race the way it is now with the Imperium. So, If you choose the Imperium, then you will start with guardsmen, but around tier 3 you will get an option similar to the Taus, that is you will either build a structure that produces units for either; SM/SOB/DH/OX. Each with their own strengths and weaknesses, so each game with Imperium will be different. The Next Race will be the Orks. They will get different types of units depending on what banner they fight for. If you Build a burner boys Banner, you get hardcore Flame units that excel at killing infantry. And so on with them... Third would be Eldar. Only Because I envision DOW2 to center around the next nid invasion, and the four races that I list would all have a part in the story. I would make each Eldar squad a force to be reckoned with, but they would have the lowest pop limit. Tyranids would be the fourth race, And I see this working will with the story in SP. The Nids would not use the normal resource system, but have a tough unit that collects bodies from the battlefield and brings them back to bioengineer more units and structures. I would raise the pop limit to about a thousand so that you can have massive wars between orks, IG and Nids. The Eldar would just scream into battle and unleash hell with their few numbers. This would go as far from the TT as possible. By doing this, no one can ever say that "Its nothing like it is TT" because everyone would laugh and point fingers at you for not knowing that its supposed to be different. |

Flyers, of dear god, worst thing to ever hit DoW. Agree with titans, As for space, shoddy EaW. Someone needs to go play Sins of a Solar Empire. Though a BFG game needs it owns well game. Quote:

Re: DOW 2 confirmed? Quote:
As for another thing - this singular faction you propose is very strongly against everything in warhammer. It just doesn't work that way there. You could consider each faction a sovereign state within a union to some extent. Quote:
And I find it ridiculous that you put the guard before eldar, mainly because people don't want to have 3 human factions. |
Re: DOW 2 confirmed? I wouldn't exactly call Chaos human, honestly, i think Eldar are more human in every aspect then Chaos. Lets hope Relic gives us another longer, better more kickass than ever CGI opening. cause lets face it, if it doesn't have a jaw dropping CGI movie (Nids vs SM) AND nicds in the game. No ammount of police in the world could stop the nerdrage that would be pouring from every corner of the world. |
Re: DOW 2 confirmed? I'd have to agree with wraith on the epic scale thing. SPACE FIGHTING AND AIR UNITS SHOULD BE LEFT OUT OF DOW2!!!! they just don't have any place in that sort of combat. The only solution for relic is to have 5+ races to solve the whole race problem. also another reason why you would need the guard is that if you are going to have nids, a very close combated oriented race, you need a shooty race to balance it (not Tau) |
Re: DOW 2 confirmed? But Chaos, SM, Eldar all can be very shooty. But, IG just have no place what so ever in the first 4 races, not even if it was 5 beggining races. If it's 5, just need to add DA ORKS back in. Though space and air have no place as useable units in the game. And space as i said should have their own game. I forgot to adress a older post saying that Guard are the most numerous and diverse 'race' in the galaxy. Which is not true; Orks, Nids, and possible necrons out number them. As for diversity, Orks win this agian. |
Re: DOW 2 confirmed? Quote:
trust me; the guard have far more of a place than the orks in 5 races because the tyranids and orks have relatively same play style... and as for the fluff reasons as to why the IG should be in... (see below) Quote:
Warhammer 40,000 - Imperial Guard read the first sentence. (and the rest if you want to know why the guard are important) not only that, but the IG is in more battles than any other entity. (excluding internal conflicts ie; an ork tribe fighting the same tribe, or the same faction of chaos fighting each other [hammer of demons]) |
