UT Soundtrack? I want those tracks...

Anyone know how I can get the UT soundtrack in mp3 or some format that I can listen to outside of the game. I found the files but I am not familiar with the extension. Is there a conversion process or a player that can play those file types? If anyone has any suggestions, please, send em my way. Thanks.

UnrealEd is the only player that can play .umx (UT Music) files. So open up UnrealEd and there is a pull-down menu near the upper-left corner (it'll have something like "Textures" or "Classes" selected). Select Music from the pull-down menu. Then, there should be a load button near the bottom of that panel. Click it and select all of your .umx files. You can play the music by double-clicking on it. You *might* be able to export the music, I'm not for sure on that one. But it's worth a try.

P.S. If you get an error running UnrealEd saying that "Threed32.ocx is invalid or unregistered" you'll need to run the UnrealEd installer off the second UT CD.

Actually, You can Export the music. I exported the muisc to a directory and they were saved as .SM3 ( I think ) files. These files, along with .mp3s, are playable by Winamp, avalible if www.winamp.com if you don't alredy have it(Yikes!).

Winamp will play most of those file formats... it doesn't have to be an s3m...

I've wondered the same thing, and found the following information on a web site (don't remember where):

How can I play Unreal music outside of Unreal?

Try going into UnrealED, go to the texture browser, select "Music", and load the song you want (.UMX file).. then press the Export button. You will be able to export the file selected as an Impulse Tracker (.IT) file. The .IT file can be then played in WinAMP.
