UT Player Peeves
 

Hi all...

I thought it would be cool to start up a thread stating my biggest "Peeve" with players in games.

How bout sharing in this thread...

Mine is, haha being blown to bits with the Redeemer. Not so much being honed in on and obliterated, but having an enemy blow you up 5 feet from ya!!! Such a mindless attack.
He kills me and himself too.
An act of a player who doesn't re-act well under pressure. haha

Yeah, Renegade. I used to feel the same way, until I really thought about it and also been in that position then not pulling the trigger. The other player gets a frag AND the redeemer you have.

Now, if I have the redeemer cocked and ready and no time to change weapons cuz this guy's spooling up a round of 6 rockets, then I'll let him have it. He gets no frag, no redeemer, I get 1 frag, but a suicide negates the frag.

So I'm even, he's out a frag, me, plus whatever he was going to get with that redeemer.

I try not to put people into that position. http://boards.ioerror.com/smile.gif Frag 'em quick afar off a bit then grab the redeemer.

My big peeve is a spawm-camper. you know, those guys that wait around a spawn point and pick ya off before you can take a step.

Another is some guy that is a "good" player but when he frags ya he calls ya a lamer or such... not the auto-taunts.

Or the guy who wins and says "You all suck big time.... " or some such thing.

Or a server still using version 400 and the redeemer blows up in yer face with Alt-fire. Man, at least use the 402 patch or 405b.

And the "teaming up" in staight DM. Wanna play teams, get on a Team DM server.

My peeve is the entire multiplayer system. It was designed to be so complex that my friends with even 56k modems and not PERFECT phone lines can't play, there's so much lag and packet dropping. That says nothing of where it leaves me, still having a 33.6 until I go to college. http://boards.ioerror.com/smile.gif

my peeve is being called a cheater and being banned from servers, and for what you ask? well to tell you the truth I'm one of the nicer guys you'll meet on a CTF server, but in this one game it was flag capture limit 10 and a bunch of average or below average gamers, by the time 5 caps had gone by my points was 80+ and most everyone else was sub 30, anyways many times things like this will happen, I get a kick ass score and the admin bans my IP for me kickin as!? that's my major peeve, well that and having other players call me a cheater or sayin I must be using some sort of cheatin device (though I don't use any device if there even is one and I don't cmap or even spawn camp...just good ole rocket launching and ASMD fun

Lag spikes piss me off.
Jump around the corner and pull the trigger on the RL....
then find out that you haven't actually jumped around the corner yet, but you HAVE pulled the trigger.

im sure you will agree with me the thing that ticks me of the most is when your getting your butt kicked then realize the other team has 4 more people then you!

My peeve is after a game is over, and everybody says GG (good game for the newbies... you should ALWAYS say this) and there's that one shmoe who insists on whining, bitching. moaning, etc. I play this game for fun. Win, lose, it's all a GAME! For example; We were playing assault on the UT servers. I had a bunch of newbies (you could tell) and a bunch of decent players were on the other team. We'd accomplish the mission in like 4-5 minutes, then the opposite team would do it in like 2. Everyone would go GG, and this one little prick would bitch about how they did it so fast, and they must be cheating, they were all on cable or sumthin , etc. etc. etc.
I'm like a complaint magnet cuz there's ALWAYS one in the server I join. Well, that's MY peeve anyway... http://boards.ioerror.com/smile.gif

Oh yeah... and people who accuse me of cheating when I tele-punt up to the cliff wall in lava giant and start sniping... but I kinda laugh at that one...

I hate it when people say their team sucks, and yet they have the lowest amount of points on their team. Spawn campers piss me off...until I cap them with my own sniper rifle. Falling off levels is annoying too (I do that a lot, as some people can attest who played on my server with me http://boards.ioerror.com/wink.gif). But, UT is still just a game, so I try not to let those things get to me.

My peeve is the morons who jump from team to team in CTF because they are on a losing team(and they have the lowest score sometimes)...I have seen this happen even when the team they jump to has 3 more people on it than the one they left. Assholes.

I agree with Psyborg, All that lag sucks, Love UT but one on one sucks if you both have a 56k connection. Bezerker your thread about PowerPlay was very interesting.. Can't wait to see it actually come about.
Whiners suck too and changing teams also but the worse is not playing as a team in CTF. Damn thats what CTF is all about, if you want to freelance go play DM.

I gotta admit, I totally agree with all your views. PotLuck, you made a very valid point about the redeemer! Guess you have to look at both sides of the coin when put in that situation (good one bud).
Also, I never knew why, in some games I could guide the "deemer" and some I would blow myself to bitz. Thanx for that bit of info.

We all admit spawn-campers are the lowest of the low in the slime pool of UT gaming. I think it will always be toted as the biggest "peeve".

I too agree with you Cyborg27. I hate when you play a team game and one of the guys on your team (either a good player or not so experienced player) on your team says that his team sucked. No wonder!!! With a teamwork mentality like that, you can tell he's a solo player on that team anyway.

Oh yeah, haha, just experienced another one a second ago. Playing a CTF or DM game, having a high score and then, the admin (who's on the loosing team) leaves and the game getz the boot. You don't even get your UT stats recorded on that one!!!!

Wow, nobody mentioned the people who rev up the impact hammer and stand in front of a teleporter in CTF-Facing Worlds?

The teleporter or spawn point with the impace hammer. Bastards. At least they don't get too many kills. I just go across to the other base and snipe 'em. That's the best bitch-move on Facing Worlds. Camp on their base in a dark corner and snipe them as they run to your base. They'll wonder where the shots are coming from, 'cuz they've most likely checked your whole base http://boards.ioerror.com/smile.gif

The hammer kills on teleporters don't really peeve me off. Tho' I only think it's a valid move when used in a defense only situation.
In Facing Worlds, if you have the enemy flag, and the enemy has yourz, setting up infront of the teleporter with the hammer to protect yourself is a wise move.
It's not flawless tho'. The enemy can guide a redeemer at you (and if your not facing the right way, it can nail ya, because with the sound of the hammmer goin, you can't hear the "deemer". Also, enemies scalin the walls can get you. If you're in the hunt for a "hammer jackin flag protectin enemy" and can't guide a deemer or scale walls good, simply go thru the teleporter with the Redeemer in your hands, he'll zap you, you drop the deemer, he automatically recieves and because he has the hammer goin, the deemer will automatically fire when he recieves it. BOOOOOOOOM! (the last suggestion is only if you can't do the 1st 2.

So, hammerin the teleporters is ok by me.

Yeah Renegade, version 400 had the ALTfire Redeemer bug. 402 fixed it.
Anyway, someone calls a truce (more than once) to show ya something. I'll get "Wanna see something cool?". So a truce is called. You meet the guy and he's getting ready to show ya that "Cool" thing and someone else who's been playing already comes around and blows ya away.
If I see two guys in DM just standing around I think "Hmmmm.. this ain't right, wonder what's up".

My biggest peeve is when little bastards just come onto the UT forums and bitch about how their graphics suck, and.......

No, PotLuck, I wasn't speakin of the secondary button on the Redeemer. But I do know that the 402 patch fixed it.
I'm talkin about the option you have in your Preferences, the one where, if you pick up a weapon that is better than the one your using, it automatically replaces it with the better of the two. So, with that in mind, if you're holding a redeemer, and the dood on the other side of the teleporter is holding a hammer, you go thru, you die, he gets your "deemer", but it's too late, he blows himself up because he was already firing the hammer.
Understand what I mean?

Hmmm...all you guys seem 2 share the same peeves against the lamers and campers (oh don't get me wrong, but i join you), but all you ppl have prolly been playin UT 4 quite some time, and more importantly, DM/CTF. Here's a point of view from a fellow newbie:

2 be honest hehehe...I enjoy some respawn fragging and teleport camping! (Well, ONLY when the opposition seems to be too damn good and even though i'm putting up a good fight, i'm at the bottom of the list, AND i always make a humorous approach, so not to piss off the victim =P) But you guys gotta remember, newbies to the UT and DM (especially DM) scene (like myself) can't catch up to better players and have no choice but to settle with using underhanded tactics. Once we get used to it, the cheap frags disappear and we become the good soldiers we should be =).

Now for my peeves: Running on software, with an @home connection that barely passes for a 14.4 modem, trying to use the mediocre skills i'm STILL learning, duelling against higher up players in instagib, and respawning so fast that I can still see my previous two bodies in the death sequences.

But I camped a lot at other places 'cause I didn't have any idea what the heck was going on.
But we're all newbies at UT anyway. It really hasn't been out all that long. Maybe not newbies at FPS games in general. How long does a game have to be out before someone can claim to be a veteran? *shrugs*

But spawn-camping isn't cool IMO. I just don't do it in ANY circumstance!

I developed a new pet peeve ;ast night actually. At first I thought nothing of it, but further investigation caused me to suspect something was up. I was on the [EX] clan server playin DM. I was ahead by at least six frags in every game which included two of the [EX] clan members (who were in 2nd and 3rd by th way). Suddenly, as I was about to get my 25th frag, which was the win limit, my connection would fail. For the first two games I thought it was just my crappy 56k, but after three more games, I found it wasn't a coincidence any more. (supported by the fact one of the two clan members were runnin the server) That's fukkin weak man. So even though I was "getting booted", I still had fun kickin' the crap outta them lamer [EX] clan mooks! If ya see anyone online with an [EX] in front of their name... kick em' in the junk for me. It isn't to hard to do either...

Yeah BeZerKeR, I've had that happen with online DM. Just the other night got booted twice from two different servers. Go into a game down some points, gain the lead over the guy with zero ping, not a bot, and it's stage left out the door.
And laugh about it, that's what gets ya. I know, I watched it happening at an ex-friends. He put up a server, didn't hold the lead for long and he booted the guy. Laughed as he said, "There! I get the last shot!".
Oh well. I just won't join a server if the admin is playing. That's that.
Problem is, it makes ALL admins look bad. It only takes a couple. http://boards.ioerror.com/frown.gif

Yeah... I know a few good admins, tho. Digger, from the Gate 1 server is really cool, and so is Cyborg, when he runs a server, an so am I. I wouldn't even know how to kick someone... BTW, how can you do kick people as an admin?

In dedicated mode you can't play and have zero ping, not that I know of, but "Remote Admin" allows you to "kick" people. Otherwise you need to restart the level. This is what was being done so I erred on terminology. In this case all get "booted". Still the point is the lame attitude that "If I can't win then nobody can."
There are a LOT more admins out there that care, really care. These are the fellas that deserve our thanks for putting up the hardware so we can play. But there ARE still those jerks that get a HUGE head with their power illusions and thank goodness it's only a small few.
Yes I have favorites I play because of the sportsmanship of those playing and the admin's selections fit what I like. http://boards.ioerror.com/smile.gif But sometimes late at night there are no humans playing those servers.

Basically, if you want to avoid arsehole admins, check the admin name in the ngStats. Just take a look at most of the highest rank players. They tend to play exclusively on their own servers and on Face. They just spawncamp the fuck out of everyone so that they can look skilled. I doubt you will ever find an admin like this in a stats disabled server, there just isn't a reason for them to do it. Not all admins are arseholes though, some are really good.

Back to the pet peeves topic:
You know what pisses me off? When I have 4 rockets loaded, and then I can't aim worth shit so I blow myself all to hell. It sucks.

You know what my pet peeve is. Well, when I join the game I'm just walking around when SUDDENLY some guy with a gun JUMPS OUT AND BLOWS ME UP. I wanted to reply to the Nuke thingy. I have to agree that giving up the nuke is a BADDDDDD idea. Such as in a game of CTF, I'll kill myself and at least you with it and save the flag...if Im lucky I'll also hit someone elce and 2 frags -1 still equals 1 to your ZERO (hehe).

A little Yeehaw tip on Nukes:

You know how some wepons of a like kind cxl each other out right (ie ASMD to ASMD)? Well it seems that a ASMD combo is a magic shield to the nuke...I've combo em 5 feet in front of me and never felt a thing, but it killed everyone behind the combo (the combo blast is so big it's hard to miss...try it). Yeehaw eats nukes for lunch baby, fly one my way YEEHAW! lol
