UnrealED

Friends,

What is the best tool to create maps with. I will be a first time map maker and the UnrealED (I am assuming that this is a packaged editor) does not open for me - "threed32.ocx is missing" or some such error.

Any ideas?

UnrealEd needs you to install it from the second disc. Your problems will disappear. Epic has an update somewhere, and it will do a standalone install, I think... there aren't any other tools that I know of.

but the real question is, will you get good performance using unrealed and using a card with d3d capability?

Sorry sweetie, [I knew I would find you again] but the UnrealEd program only uses the Glide 3D api, everyone else is software.

However, they made up for that problem with several other bugs. However, if he'll run the install program off the second CD, and make sure to use the UnrealTournament path for the install, he should be OK, or go download the Unreal2Ed which is due out at Ued2.com anyday now. Might even be there already.

Thanks friends for the insight! I do enjoy reading you endless bantering about the D3d and Glide.

Myself - I chose to join them (the masses using a 3dfx based card) and I bought a Voodoo 3. It has made the gaming experience much nicer.

Ahh, but for love of 32bit Quake3, I cannot bring myself down that low.

Q3 looks damn sweet and I get about 50FPS average on my V3 2K system, Grimmy... I don't notice much difference between 16bit color and 32 (and I run it at 800x600 or higher)
