3D Prophet II MX - and SB LIVE 128

Hi, i have a 3D Prophet II MX, which is a Geforce2 based card.. And a sblive 128, everytime I try to run OGL instead of direct 3D even with the 6.18 detonator drivers, i always get a kernel32.dll error. And everytime I play UT, the sound is choppy all the time! it skips and stuff, what is going on??? i have uninstalled UT until i can fix these 2 issues: choppy sound, on a sblive 128, and having to get OGL working with muh 3D Prophet II MX 32mb video card. on win98, 128 megs ram.

You'd be much better off using D3d for Unreal with a GTS card.
Do you get dll errors when you run in other modes or is it just OGL?

Ozymandius August 17th, 2000 03:56 PM

GeForce is not supposed to work with OGL. Use only D3D. And about your sound, you may want to double check your speaker wire connections.

You could have an IRQ conflict between your soundblaster and GTS cards. Creative sound cards are notorious for screwing about with IRQ distributions

Jethro August 17th, 2000 07:02 PM

Mr. Jimmybellies is correct. My Sound Blaster Live! jacked up IRQ's on my system...had to manualy assign a couple to fix it. http://boards.ioerror.com/biggrin.gif

Kack! Nice card (same as mine), but running in OGL? No way. D3D all the way man.
For your sound...maybe you should go with an MX400 http://boards.ioerror.com/tongue.gif
Well, actually do what Jethro said.

Why use Direct3D? Other UT www sites say that D3D is fucked with nvidia cards sometimes. Like sound can chop as a result, thats exactly what I get. I want to try OpenGL in UT, it would be a lot better. Is it possible to uninstall the SB Live! 128 drivers, and use generic SB 16 drivers for it? on the same IRQ?

jimmybellies August 18th, 2000 06:56 PM

Is this a SB 1024 L!ve or a SB 128? To the best of my knowledge there isn't a 128 L!ve...

And D3d is the better of the two in UT's case. I can't speak for anyone else but on my GTS Nvidia card, D3d performs twice as well as OGL. The sound chopping I've never come accross but then I don't use OGL for UT....

Soundblaster 128 PCI, the one before live 1024. I hear 128 pci's have fucked up irq handling sometimes, swapping access from other devices, I dunno. For some reason, UT sux on my celeron 600 128 megs pc100 sdram, 3D Prophet II MX, and SB 128 PCI. Any sites to tweak, etc.....any sites to debug this sound issue?
