If you want to run Win2k, I'd hold off a bit till you can upgrade your processor.

I have the same pc as you only with 64mb of RAM. I'm gonna try to upgrade to an Athlon 900MHz, maybe some more RAM, new MOBO so it supports Athlon's and AGP 4x etc and a new 3D card. All this is going to cost around £500 but you won't need the RAm so it would cost you about £400. Athlon's are MUCH cheaper than pentiums are and people say that they're better too.....

What the hell are all you Win98SE users doing to it??? - Win98SE is pretty darn stable if you keep it on good nick, mine generally crashes only when another program takes it down, and that hasn't happened for weeks.

I have Windows 98, Windows 98se, Windows ME, and Windows 2000. Windows 2000 is the most stable. Also Win2k runs (with those game-compatibility updates) jsut about any D3D game with better performance then you would find in Win98se. But, I need to use Win98se because win2k doesn't like my cracked Netzero proggie. http://boards.ioerror.com/frown.gif oh well. in due time that will be all sorted out.

I've heard that W2K will fully use the ram. Is that real? And when booting up, does it go though dos, like Win me?

Hickeroar October 17th, 2000 02:04 AM

no. theres no dos. and it has way better memory management
