Actually man, my ping is normally down to about 50, and its not incredibly different from 250. I did get a bit better, but not much. And you all remember when my ping was 800+ on my old winmodem. Then I did sorta suck. I feel your pain, but I don't think it makes as much difference as you make it out to be. Having a good ping doesn't make you a good player. ------------------ http://www.angelfire.com/mi/Strebs/images/DolbySig2.gif [AxE]Dolby: your friendly neighborhood SpiderMan. |
Once again, the ping thing. Here's a couple of points. Ping is not everything and a good connection doesn't always mean a good ping. My connection ranges from 80-400 in many games. Yes it jumps all over the place. Where do you aim with an unstable ping? With dial-up, I believe you get a more stable ping and I've heard some people say that they'd keep their stability over a "Sometimes good" ping." Many of the best players play on a 56K modem. LarrE can own most anyone regardless of ping. Figure it out. I understand your grief at your ping; but, ping is only a factor and to say that you'd beat the others if you had their connection seems a little off to me. No disrespect intended. Perhaps when you get your LPB status you'll realize that it is still mostly about skills. ------------------ http://paulzplace.tripod.com/quest15.jpg I play deathmatch for fun. |
Yes, my pings to servers are usually between 150 and 250, despite my connection. Of course, I could play on my own server where I have a ping of 30, but I don't find doing that much fun at all. It's OK Jethro. You're a good player, despite the slow connection. |
Maybe it's me and I suck real bad, but when I am playing I can NEVER tell if a dude is on a 56K connection or a Cable/DSL. They all seem to play the same to me. For instance LarrE that dude doens't seem to play any different then Moose (I don't mean skill either) just saying that I cna't tell the difference. SO if your gonna bitch about all that pind shit they come play me. http://boards.ioerror.com/biggrin.gif ------------------ http://hotyellow98.com/vukodlak/utk1 |

damn right jethro |
whoever said "connection doesn't matter" you are full of shit! I'm over at a friends house now playing UT on @home Cable, I'll post details later! |
I agree..........its not the ping value(within reason, over 500 and it can be hard to play... http://boards.ioerror.com/biggrin.gif)...its more the stable ping that makes a difference(altho I dont know anyone who has what I would call a "stable" ping with a dialup). I remember my 56k days(yes, at one time I was even on AOHell, then to Worldnet and Earthlink) and my ping was all over hell...in fact, I got DSL because I wanted a stable ping, so now its in the 80-100 range all the time no matter how may people are in the game..unless the server is acting up or you get one of those weird "bandwidth suckers" that lags the server all to hell. So with a stable ping, I dont have to re-adjust my lead time and my hitscan weps(MiniGun, SniperRifle, ShockRifle, ect)are "point and shoot". Jethro is right tho....56K sucks Sucks SUCKS. I know I would never(by choice) go back to dialup. ------------------ http://clans.utworld.net/teamklaw/siggy.gif |
Hopefully, some day, ping will no longer matter. I wish it'd hurry tho.... ------------------ http://potluck45x.homestead.com/files/Utksig01.jpg |
