420 patch doesn't install nor work http://www.saunalahti.fi/~tronic2/pics/ut420.gif I'm getting this error when trying to patch (UTbasePatch420.exe gives it). I also tried a warez version (that extracts to UT\SYSTEM directory but with it UnrealTournament.exe and UnrealEd.exe give the same error. What's happening and is this fixable? My system: Athlon 700 Asus K7M Matrox G400 Aureal SQ2500 Win98 |
Well, I can think of a couple of things it might be... 1) Have ya tries downloading from different places? 2) I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but this is where you would install the patch.....c:\Unrealtournament (Assuming "c" is the drive you have UT installed on.) Don't add system to it. http://boards.ioerror.com/biggrin.gif I know it wasn't much but I hope it helped. http://boards.ioerror.com/smile.gif http://boards.ioerror.com/smile.gif ------------------ For Whom The Bell Tolls. http://www.geocities.com/jethro19k/metmenulogoan.gif |
Do you have a retail copy of UT? i.e. did you buy the game? Don't care if you didn't. Hell I played UT for months before buying it. Hell I still haven't installed the retail version cause you don't have too. This is the first step that I need to understand you problem. I have downloaded it from two different places; other is "proof" (another guy downloaded it from there), there were no differences in files, and no CRC errors with that SFX ZIP. It doesn't even ask where I want to install it; that error comes right after executing UTbasePatch420.exe (which was extracted from SFX ZIP UTPatch420.exe (it automatically executes "base" exe after extracting and deletes it as soon as it finishes (after clicking OK for that error)). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling UT: still doesn't work. Probably it doesn't matter if I do have UT installed or not. And yes, I even have real, fully legal UT. I have used cracked versions of patches because it's not nice to keep that CD in the drive. |
Moose, where did you stole that moose(picture) from? I had that GIF (it was animation) on my old-old webpage from year .. ummh.. something like 1996. My first touch to Unreal was when I downloaded it from the net and thought, "Oh YES, this is GREAT!", so I bought it. Later I got UT (from the net, of course) and bought it too (wasn't that great anymore, they should have added new features like bump-mapping) .. The point is that I never buy a game without testing it first. Hopefully they'll also understand it some day and stop wasting time and money for those copy-protections. There's always someone who is able to break it. Btw, a game named Ground Control, try it, it is GREAT! |
