UT2004 Wont Install On Vista Recently, I had got a brand new Vista desktop from Dell. Dell XPS420 with 500gb hard-drive, 2gb ram, 3.16ghz Core 2 Duo processor. I go and install UT2004. When its finished, I go to run the game and it doesn't work because of a runtime error, which I find strange. Whats more, the game disc gets stuck so I have to stick a pin in the hole on the DVDRW drive to get it out. |
Re: UT2004 Wont Install On Vista You may have to use something called Virtual PC to fix that. You'll also need a copy of XP. I haven't tried to put XP on Virtual PC yet, but that would give you a place to install UT2K4 w/o problems. |
Re: UT2004 Wont Install On Vista So I would need to buy XP somewhere, format my PC, put Virtual PC on and then UT2004? Seems a little extreme just for a single game. |
Re: UT2004 Wont Install On Vista Yeah. Actually, there may be an alternative because I recently put UT99 on Vista without a problem. You wouldn't have to format your PC, by the way. I'll see if I can get UT2K4 to work on my comp. Then we can go from there. |
Re: UT2004 Wont Install On Vista I installed UT2K4 on my Vista comp w/o any problems. It runs w/o problems as well. From looking at your first post, I think you may have a hardware problem. Software shouldn't stop a disk drive from opening. Does your DVD-RW do this for other games? |

(Its not the 6-disc version of UT2K4. Its the DVD-ROM version) But this is a DVD-RW 16X drive so I can't for the life of me figure out why it does this. I can't figure out why a runtime error would pop up when trying to play the game either. |
Re: UT2004 Wont Install On Vista I have the 6-disk CD version, but I have a DVD-ROM drive. You may want to see if you have patched the game (you probably did to get the bonus pack). After patching, I was able to play the game w/o the CD. Also see if you have Service Pack 1 in Vista (just update Vista). |

Plus, I have a lot more stuff to recover from the old PC before I format its hard drive so until I have time, I won't be doing much modding for any of my games. |
Re: UT2004 Wont Install On Vista No luck. Patched the game and it still refues to run. Hell, AVG is even detecting one of the dll's as a trojan now. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...eg/EXAMPLE.jpg |
Re: UT2004 Wont Install On Vista if i had to guess. its your av anti virus..i have read av is hell on some games and other programs and cause problems.. i read of all sorts of problems with av. i like avast anti virus.. id bet money av is keeping it from working. |

Re: UT2004 Wont Install On Vista Well, if firewalls and anti-virus programs are stopping you from installing, I would just take down every single one of them temporarily and then try to install the game. See if that works. |

I am at a loss. :bawl: (I wanna play the Ballistic Weapons 2.0 mod again *wah*) |
Re: UT2004 Wont Install On Vista I don't know. It may just not install at all. If you haven't tried everything that you could think of, do so. |
Re: UT2004 Wont Install On Vista im not sure how to fix it. and i dont know anything much about vista. but i have read. many people have trouble with games and other programs using av. i do know say for instance my pest patrol corp pro. if i use it to delete a program found as a threat. it will not let the program be installed ever again. even if pp is off or deleted. the only way i can let that program install again is to undo it in pp restore or it will never work again. so. id guess if av or anything else has seen it as a threat it is blocking it. i would google. you can search google by word or ask it a question.. like. why wont ut04 install on vista 32bit. etc etc.. or.. ut04 will not install on vista 32bit.. good luck. |
Re: UT2004 Wont Install On Vista ok try this.right click on the ut2004 shortcut icon and choose properties, when the properties dialog opens up choose the "compatibility" tab check mark the "run this program in compatibility mode for" and from the drop down list choose window XP (service pack 2) and see if that helps you out any..also when you do this winblows vista might pop up saying something about a compatibility issue, you can just ignore it & run the game any way. |
