Some UT3Demo bugfixes and tweaks...

For those having problems entering your email addresses because pressing @ brings down the console, you can bypass this by copy-pasting from Notepad.

Having problems joining online servers? Well, if you can find the IP address, you can get to the server by opening the console and typing open followed by the IP address. Example:

open 11.111.11.111:1111

If you are using Windows XP64 or Windows Server 2003 as an operating system, or are receiving an error message stating "Modified executable code is not allowed", there's a hotfix available. Click here to get it.

For users who have GeForce FX series cards, the game will run fine, but you'll need a crapload of RAM and a powerful processor to pick up the slack. You can, however, play this game without meeting the minimum requirements, but only if your other hardware is powerful enough to compensate.

Sadly, I can't offer any potential solutions for the people who are having random "UT3Demo.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" errors. There could be any number of causes for these, but I'll post any potential solutions as I find them.

Props go to Relic for this next one:
Here's a little tweak that might boost your FPS, especially if your system requirements are below recommended. Naviagate through My Documents -> My Games -> Unreal Tournament 3 Demo -> Config. Open the file UTEngine.ini, and scroll to the [Engine.ISVHacks] section. Find UseMinimalNVIDIADriverShaderOptimization=False. Change this to True. You'll get a slight FPS boost and the game will be smoother.

Obviously, lowering your resolution will speed the game up, but here's a little-known fact: Even if you crank your resolution down to 640x480, if a game is fullscreened and not at the same resolution as your desktop, you'll experience performance issues such as slowdown and FPS latency. To combat this, never set your game(s) to a higher resolution than your desktop, and if you happen to set your games to a lower resolution than your desktop, run them in windowed mode (tap Alt+Return). Of course, not all games can run in windowed, and with some games - most notably older ones - it won't make a difference, but with many full-3D games, resolution and aspect ratio can have a dramatic impact on performance.

The entire UTDemoCompat.ini file is pretty much devoted to graphics settings. Tweak it around a little, see if you can't boost your FPS a bit, but make sure to create a backup copy of the file before fuxing with it.

Oh, and naturally, be careful of background processes. Keep the vitals up, such as firewall and on-access AV, but as a general rule if you don't need it and it's whoring more than 10k mem (check this in Task Manager under Processes), terminate it.

If you've run a lot of applications before UT3Demo.exe, try restarting. A fresh RAM buffer can be helpful.

And if you get an "unknown filetype" error while trying to run the .exe file... run the demo on Windows, not Linux. >_>

Well, that's all we got thus far. Will post more as and when I get it, and you guys are free to do the same naturally.

Hi gize,
I've played UT3Demo since it got released, and then suddently I get the "Modified executable code is not allowed. Please reinstall game"-error message?!
I've re-installed the game twice both with and without a reboot, and nothing helps.. I still get the error msg! Game doesn't even start up - it shows the error msg and terminates :bawl:

I remember one thing though that might help you - and me...
The last time I played the online game without any problems, I came to look at someone talking about other maps/games in UT3Demo, and I then typed the mentioned IP address into the speach bar. I got transferred from the present game into another game - the CTF game/map where you have tanks, flying "ships" and flying boards etc... I played it for a while and I THINK I returned to the ordinary game before I logged off, but I'm not sure.. I might have logged off from the CTF game(?).

Could that be the reason why the demo is making probs now?
Did the game store this IP address somewhere, and now determining it as a modified executable code??

I'm not running XP64 (as far as I know - I run Vista Home Premium on a less than 1 yr old stationary Medion desktop computer) and I'm not running Win.Server 2003 either (but I might have downloaded some updates to it via Windows Update - could that be the reason?

I've tryed the "Click here to get it" link provided abv to get the bug fix, but it must have been removed afterwards, cause nothing shows...

I would be very grateful for any help making my UT3Demo work again.

Thanks a lot in advance,

Re: Some UT3Demo bugfixes and tweaks...

Hey! I found out how to.. I extracted the UT3Demo-XP64-2K3.zip file to a diff library than where it's supposed to be, as replacing the ordinary exe file was not allowed by Vista. I moved it to the correct library in the UT3Demo ....\binaries after renaming it as the corrupt file of course was still there. Then "deleted" the orig. and now corrupt file (moved it to another library), and renamed the UT3Demo-XP64-2K3.zip file as the proper exe file UT3Demo.exe.... and NOW IT WORKS. But no servers show anymore, so I did a instant game instead... wonder why no servers were up... there used to be always one up an running, but I don't see it anymore.... something else is wrong perhaps??
Anyway I'm glad it works... at least I can go play the instant games and get better.
This in case someone else want to know how to fix this bug.

Happy fraggin'

Have to state, that I did just that - opened a server (this one: IP 212.200.115.2:7777), and then my probs described and solved abv started!
So be aware that it could have gaming concequences i.e. that you get the "Modified executable code is not allowed. Please reinstall game"-error message!

That's all folks.

Btw.. my nick on UT3Demo is "Kihllgast".. hope to frag you there ;-)
