Default WinXP

Ok, I've got WinXP. I'm going to test it out and see how it works, since I've got some spare time. My question is, any idea how it'll run with games and whatnot? I know its very very graphics oriented and tends to run alittle slow from what I hear from the few whove used it, but I was just curious if anyone knows first hand. Thanks.

Hmm, I've got WinXP too, and I've got a Voodoo 3 2000. And those two don't seem to be working good together. I've tried Half-Life and FreeSpace 2 so far. Half-Life says that the selected OpenGL mode is not supported by my hardware, and Freespace 2 just crashes. I'm using W2k driver, which I was told should work. Anyone got any tip on getting it to work??

What version of Half-Life are you using? If it's 1104 then upgrade to the latest version (1106).

I would also probably try reinstalling the video drivers (I upgraded my XP Pro from 2K Pro (GeForce 256 DDR). I reinstalled the Win2K 1241-WHQL-drivers and except for Daikatana (game launches but parts of menu UI are blacked out) everything is copesthetic.

Just my 2 centz...

not a freakin thing works on my RC-1 (voodoo5 5500) had to get generic drivers to convert quake3 to Direct 3D to get that to even work..other than that..nothing works that uses OPENGL
probably because Nvidia never realeased the codeing to MS to put in XP so im pretty much screwed....time to buy a radeon=) or a geforce if I can afford 300 bucks

I've gotten Direct 3D to work in Halflife. There are specific drivers you have to use. Go here: http://go.to/3dfxp

As far as I can test (by running every program I can get my hands on) Windows 2000 Pro is very stable, has almost perfect driver support (everything is great except the Haupauge TV card that has a blue square in the top right of the image, any fixes would be welcome), and since SP2/d3D8 runs almost any program you can name. More importantly ME lost the 9x support of DOS as even though it is still booted from DOS 7 you can't exit to DOS like you could on 9x. The emulator of DOS on Win2k runs all of the classic games I have (even the ones that didn't work on Win9x).

As XP seems to be Win2k with a new GUI system (ie bitmap support for all sections rather than the classic block color) and the new movie support of ME (Just as amateurs like the iMac movie maker, I like the Microsoft one for ME so I'm happy about them porting it to XP) it definitely seems to be the future for my machine. I'm just wondering if they'll remove all the multimedia from the Pro built as I'm guessing the Home edition will be full of annoying lockouts and lack of admin controls.
