Dude, I have 2 things to say: 1. What are your specs? 2. This happens on most machines that i know of. It has got to do with view distance and the amount of graphics on the screen. Even on my bro's 800 with 64b video card it does it at very long ranges. As far as I can help is, maybe goto 800 X 600 or search for newer drivers. |
my specs are in the screenshots...but anyway.... PIII-550 (100mhZ FSB), 128mbRAM, V3-2000 w/8mbSGRAM (onboard), BX mobo [its all a Packard Smell pre-made PC > http://www.veforums.com/frown.gif ------------------ -=[DELIVERYMAN]=- http://www.angelfire.com/film/guru/del.gif |
That venetian blind effect as textures are revealed at large distances is normal. It's a limitation of the Quake engine. Quake2 does this also. The Quake engine (and HL uses a steroid pumping version of the Quake1 engine, let me remind you) is limited to short distances. You rarely see this in standard HL or TFC maps because the Valve mappers are careful not to make map distances too large to reveal the flaw. Some maps just let you see too far and expose the effect. A lot of mod maps do this (it's pretty common with some of the bigger Counter Strike maps). Don't worry about that, it's not your card, all is well. My machine does this as well, some decals have those thin white lines running thru them like in your screenshots. I have especially noticed it in "Surface Tension" in the minefields when I blow-up the mines, all the exploded mine decals have those annoying lines running thru them. My Specs: PIII 850, 256MB RAM, VooDoo5 64MB AGP. I'm running in open GL ( with Wicked GL drivers ) at 1024x768 16 bit color at 85hz. I also notice these lines on some ceiling/wall textures, but I notice these lines up close, not from a distance.... Is this too normal? Jeff |
No Jeff, you should not see lines up close. Only time I've ever seen what you describe is either an overheating problem, bad card, or a bad setting in your config.sys file. Try this: delete or temporarily rename the CONFIG.CFG file located in the \HL\VALVE folder. If it only happens when playing a mod (like TFC or CS) then just delete the CONFIG.CFG file in that mod's folder. Keep in mind you'll have to configure your keyboard binds again. Do the same for the autoexec.cfg file. Sorry I only just remembered that otherwise would have mentioned it in your other post. That's the likly culprit. ------------------ The Flying Penguin http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif http://TheFlyingPenguin.com [This message has been edited by FlyingPenguin (edited 01-22-2001).] |
