New 3dfx Glide Driver for UT

hey if anyone in the big chair at epic is reading this... why don't you release an up-to-date glide driver that supports 32bit color and formats the compressed textures on cd2 over to FXT1? You released that DX8 driver for it... so why not?????!!!!! Yeah sure 3dfx is dead but the api your engine was built for doesn't have to be. Come on man, keep your prog up to date and give us v4/v5 users a chance to see why we really bought the cards for. You turned your backs on 3dfx, don't turn your backs on us :/

Glide is 16bit color limited and a castrated version of OGL. I'm glad the proprietary API is dead... Please leave it that way.

lol omg how many times do we have to tell you? the voodoo 4/5 DO support 32bpp in glide now... but you wouldn't know that if you didn't have a v4/5.. (but should anyways)
would you like me to show you a pic of proof?

Actually the max you get with glide is a "simulated" 22 bit image, and you only get that by changing in the 3dfx tools. Glide only supports 16 bit image quality. That is a fact that I know of. I have a V5.

ok... well what do you think about the possibilities of using fxt1 with the game? Glide would be even faster...

Frazas March 8th, 2001 07:44 AM

Glide is already very fast.... even on slow PC's. I really don't think that there are going to be any more improvements on glide.

The next Unreal will be D3D only (I think).

wtf is wrong with you people? I just want to see those damn compressed textures in glide. is that so wrong? The beta d3d driver they released doesn't work well with my v5... I mean how the hell hard could it be to do this? I WANT TO SEE THOSE TEXTURES IN GLIDE DAMN IT!!!!

Frazas March 8th, 2001 01:50 PM

hey man, chill out!!!

Glide is dead, or it will soon be, so...

If you want something done, do it yourself.

yep and I suppose I'll just use my PHD programming skills I got when I was 6 years old

lol yeah sure probably no one will ever write in glide anymore... but why not use it to it's full extent in games that were BUILT for it?

madthumbs March 8th, 2001 09:07 PM

I don't think glide is upgradeable because it is tied into hardware. 3dfx telling us that 22bit color =32bit would have been like Sega Genesis supported transparencies because they could "simulate" them with dots. btw, I have a Voodoo 5. I still want Glide dead... every game I've seen that uses it looks too cartoony because of the color. This would be fine for games like Oni, but they aren't.

good for you... I don't care if anyone wants glide dead or not... I just want to see those textures in action with FXT1

MAC March 19th, 2001 07:10 PM

If you want to see the S3TC textures on the 2nd CD, just buy a GeForce 2 MX card or Radeon LE (both fairly cheap) and run UT using the latest OpenGL dll file. UT OpenGL support is now on par with or better than D3D support.

umm... how bout I not buy a slow, hyped up buggy ass card [already went through that bull**** with my savage2k] and just let epic do those fxt1 drivers http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif
