Default Direct x

Installed direct x 8.1. MISTAKE. Nothing workds, not even the dxdiag.exe. Everything hangs on initial game start ups. How do I revert back to 8.0?????

There's no known problem with Dx8.1 - it was probably a fluke. Try re-installing it again.

Are you sure you have the latest drivers installed for your video and sound cards? Some drivers aren't Dx8.1 compliant.

There's really no reason I can think of to go back to Dx8.0 - 8.1 is proven with no problems (assuming your drivers are current).

If you insist on rolling back to Dx8.0 there is no official way (microsoft says it can't be done), but there is an unofficial way. You can use the Dx Eradicator: http://www.geocities.com/firecat182/

Fair warning, uninstalling Dx is risky and may possibly corrupt your Windows installation. MS never intended for DX to be uninstalled.

Once uninstalled, you can install whatever version of DX you want or re-install Dx 8.1
