So is a $200 Voodoo 5 5500 a good deal??

What do you guys think, I know they were just $300 a little while a go. Should I buy one for $200 (I aint rich, I am a college student) or is there a new card that is commin out around the same price that will be a better buy?

If its not used, then yes, its a good deal. You can get a 32mb DDR Radeon for like $170, a 64mb for like $250.

Since it sounds like your on a budget, I would really recommend a GeForce2 MX. If you must have glide, you can pick up a Voodoo4 4500 for like $150, but they do not preform nearly as well as a GeForce MX.

The new cards around the corner will all be $300+ most likely. Remember that the Geforce2 GTS 32mb DDR was anywhere from $250 - $370 when it first came out depending on the brand.

I highly recommend the Radeon 32mb DDR for its value/performance. It looks purty too http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif

All the internet sites I have checked have the V5 for <$300. Checked Best Buy they have them $199.

some stores used to have a 50$ coupon for first time customers, if you can find one of these stores (sry, don't remember any) then you could get a v5 for 150$ which is an excellent deal. But even at 200$, the V5 is a sweet card.

Yes, I too would recommend the Voodoo5-5500! So what if 3dfx went under. This card will continue to be supported by 3dfx (or what;s left of it) and is a much better performer at high resolutions (1024x768 and up) that the GeFarce2 MX.

You can get a 32meg GeForce 2 GTS for 159 dollars at SG3D.

NO! 3Dfx is going out of business. Best Buy is already pulling 3Dfx cards off the shelf.

Wait a while and see what happens. No point in paying full retail for a card with no driver updates, no tech support and no warranty.

In all likelyhood the V5's price will drop like a rock in the coming weeks, or you'll eventually see them on surplus./liquidation sites for dirt cheap.

Frankly, I wouldn't buy a V5 at all except for a song now - there will be no moe drivers coming from 3Dfx or anyone else unless 3Dfx releases the code to the public domain.
