Windows not shutting down
 

My wife has an Abit BH6, P3, gf2, and ever since XP got installed on it it doesnt shut down, before, when you press shut down, the PC would shut all the way down, now, it stops at the screen that says windown can be shut down or something like that, any way to make it so the PC shuts all the way down like before?

I have that problem too. A friend seemed to think my power management was crappy... (Gigabyte 7IXE4 Socket A)

I'd be interested to find out if there is a solution (other than upgrading http://www.veforums.com/wink.gif )

Go into your task manager and see if FindFast is running. Kill the process.

how do i get to the task manager?

Press Control (CTRL)/ALT/DELETE all at the sametime, a window will pop up. See if you see Findfast in there.

Had a similar problem with win2k - check your bios for a power management setting thats says delay shutoff for 4 seconds (or similar). Set it to shut off instantly. This sorted out the problem for me.

I have a really *weird* problem with my home network server...


The server configuration is as follows:

Abit BX6 Rev 2.0
Intel Retail P2-400 (BX80523P400512ESL2U5)
192MB PC-133 CAS 2
Diamond Viper V550 16MB AGP
8.4GB Quantam CR HDD
5x Panasonic / Matsu****a DVD-Rom (One of the last native RPC1 Drives.. ahh)
SB Vibra 16 (ISA)
3com 10/100 LAN card

Ok when this *beast* became a dinosaur, it also become my W2k Adv. Server and adopted my old K6-2's AOpen HX-45 Midi Tower.

For some *strange* reason, at any time when u power off the PC usin the power button, it powers down then *instantly* turns back on again... Might have a play with the power management bios settings (Relatively limited on the old BX-6 2.0)

The old board in this case was an AOpen AX59 Pro (Super 7, 1 MB cache) and it had no such issues.

Oh well, otherwise it doesn't worry too much because if i need to turn it off for any reason i can just let it shut down then turn off the power at the wall switch (and no, it does *not* damage hardware by doing this.. so don't even try to tell me it does... how do u think our old AT power switches worked? They performed exactly the same function *internally* http://www.veforums.com/biggrin.gif)

My god, another XP problem. Man, Microsoft really really suxs now. I don't know what is their problem but no matter how fast your PC is, that stoopid Bill Gates will find a way to slow it down. Same to all the game developers. I'm going to stick with my PS2 and soon-to-be-mine Gamecube (I've pre-ordered). No more Microsoft with it's Ice-Box.
