Linux graphics driver
 

So, trying to get linux - specifically Elementary OS (based on Ubuntu) - to work with my computer.

Works fine off the live CD; recognises the second monitor, smooth scrolling.

Install it, second monitor no longer active, smooth scrolling gone.

Fine, fine, thinks Nem. It just needs the additional drivers it's asking for. (Ah, sweet naivety.)



After installing which, reboot - problem remains.

Nvidia x-server is in the applications list now though - which informs us our drivers aren't new enough.



So, apt-get remove --purge nvidia-current

apt-get install nvidia-current.

Seems to build okay



Problem not fixed - same error message in the xserver interface.

Let's open gedit!

Ah, the wonders of trying to use something that's not really on your system in an operable sense -

But we've run into the edges of Nem's rather limited Linux knowledge here. I suspect nvidia-current should be down as an alias.

Try removing all drivers and installing the ones on Nvidia's website rather than the ones in the repo. You'll have to boot into run level 3 to install them (just sh directory\nvidiawhateverit'snamed.sh IIRC). That's solved a very (incredibly) similar issue for me before. Sometimes the ones in the repo just don't work.
