With Samsung set to announce the Galaxy S4 today it got me wondering what mobile (cell) phone do you guys use. If your running a smart phone are you using a custom rom ?
I use a Galaxy S2 and it is running JellyBean 4.1.2 it is a custom rom as it is not supposed to be available in the UK yet but it is a actual Samsung Rom before the providers put all of there branded bloatware on it.
Currently? iPhone 4S. My old Nexus S phone's screen spontaneously broke and they didn't have any replacements. The alternatives were moving to an older phone, waiting a few months for them to restock, or getting an iPhone.
But on my old phone, the extend of my customization was layout. Didn't bother with anymore than that.
It took me so much faffing about, which is a story for another time, but, last month I finally got my Nokia Lumia 920.
Yes, it's Windows Phone 8.
It's fucking gorgeous and lovely in every way, I adore it though. Honestly worth considering a phone from the latest Lumia series, WP8 has come on leaps and bounds. I am not using any custom rom but I really don't feel the need and I don't want to go breaking any warranties etc. yet.

Nokia N95, a pre-smartphone era mobile with damaged display and weak battery. I need a new one but in my opinion there aren't a whole lot of smartphones with good price/performance ratios.

My contract is up in about 4 months and I was considering a win 8 phone but I will probably opt for the S4 when they become available on 3. It will mean a trip to the 3 shop first though because I still wouldn't mind a look at one.
How do they compare to android. I mean I use netflix and sync up my gmail and hotmail to my phone and tablet. Can you do those simple things on a win 8 phone ?

My wife just got a new Samsung Galaxy Ace (1 not 2) and it is a brilliant phone for the money. It is also one of the best sounds on a mobile I have ever heard. Not only is it fairly cheap it is also one of the most modded phones out there. People have created iOs 5 and windows (android based) for it as well as the latest versions of Android. In 11 months I can have it to play with
Yes, from what I understand, Windows Phone 8 should be able to do those things for sure. There's an app for netflix in the windows store, and Windows Mail can connect to gmail.
Nokia 3110 classic. It's a basic phone based on early 2000s technology, just using text messages and call.
Yeah, everyone has a smartphone already, I've been thinking about getting one but mostly just for WLAN, there are quite a lot of free open networks here.
But then again I like the fact that an old phone like mine keeps running on a single battery charge for over a week. I like that it's small and it survives several drops on hard floor. I also prefer my PC for Internet, so not sure if smartphone is needed. After all, I suppose you get bored of those apps after awhile, so it's a bit just like a new toy.

Not really no. I mean don't get me wrong there is a lot of crap on smart phones but then there are some real gems especially if have a all you can eat data package.
Some of the gems are sort of gimmicky but once you use them they are just brilliant.
Dropbox, googles drive and skydrive are a great example. I use all 3 to be honest but I use dropbox for my pictures. If I take a pic with my phone or tablet then it just uploads to dropbox then when I turn my PC on it is auto downloaded to my dropbox folder. It doesn't sound like much but it is the little things like that, that once set up right make a smart phone worth it.
I use mine everyday in the following ways.
Unified Remote - to control my media PC. It acts as so many different remotes that it is brilliant. I also use it to control my main PC.
Xbox SmartGlass - to control my 360 that I use as a media player in bed room.
Camera - Nice to have a 8 mp camera that takes a good picture.
Flashlight - love this app.
BT Smart talk - this allows me use a wifi or 3g connection to make calls that are with my home phone package.
These are just a few and no doubt every one here who uses a smart phone will have there essential every day apps.
