Default Nvidia Kernel Mode constant crash

My Asus G53sw has been working fine for quite some time now, even all day when gaming Chivalry, Until just this evening. I keep getting a message pop-up saying "Nvidia Windows Kernel Mode Driver has stopped responding and has recovered successfully". This causes my screen to go black for a second then strange things randomly happen. Some screens will be purple, some will constantly flash, it's messed! I can no longer game anything. It just freezes at the main menu. I tried updating drivers and even rolling back to old drivers. Still doing the same thing. It seems to happen most often when I open Firefox. I've read many of the same problems online but no official fix. Only thing I can think of is maybe opening it up and cleaning/reseating the video card but I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Can anyone help?

Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 186.81 - Microsoft Community

I did some brief research. I say, try uninstalling the drivers, rebooting, reinstalling them, and update your system firmware. I honestly don't know what to say about this one. Even if it fixes it, I'd recommend pulling it apart, cleaning it out and reapplying some thermal grease to it.

I used to get it on my 680, but I haven't since, so I'm just assuming it's an issue with the drivers being unstable.

Thanks GateCrusher for that link. One person posted a solution that, so far, has worked for me.

THE SOLUTION:

Nvidia Control Panel -> 3D Settings -> Set PhysX configuration -> Select a Physx processor -> choose your graphics card instead of leaving it on auto-select

Hopefully this helps others as well!
