The only DB ratings that are even accurate are the ones put out by server-fan companies. All the rest of them are a bunch of FUD.

Been doing some more digging and after narrowing it down to the Noctua, Nexus and Scythe, I am finding I like the Scythe Gentle Typhoons. I know for a fact their S Flex are fairly quiet and these are designed to be even quieter and they're very well balanced (low vibration) and durable.

Yeah I know fans are often overrated in their specs, but then I've heard you say just recently here that you were disappointed you couldn't hear one you'd bought and have been known to swear by Deltas, which are among the loudest.

That was a panaflo, not delta.

Yes I know, I wasn't talking about what you said today regarding Panaflo, you've brought up Deltas before too.

I really wouldn't advise S Flexs being used as rad fans. They suck much monkey balls. They're great as case fans, but they have pretty much no pressure.

GTs would be your best bet if you're looking for good, quiet, and cheap.

No, I haven't

These deltas I just bought are the first ones I'm going to own.
Maybe you're thinking of san aces.

@Daed,
I never said I was going to use an S Flex as a rad fan, I said Gentle Typhoon, GT, as you just said. The S Flex I was referring to is currently being used for a mere rear exhaust fan.

It's been implied on a few forums I've checked where people have used both the 1450 RPM GT and the 1850 RPM one that the 1850 is noticeably audible and the 1450 not. I worry that the 1450 won't give me any better performance though and maybe just be a bit quieter than what I have now.

I can't help but think though that the 1850 RPM one wouldn't be as loud as the 2000 RPM H70 ones I tried, and probably no louder than the 1700 RPM H50, which is acceptable if I get noticeably better thermal perfromance.

The GTs are designed for less turbulence and vibration and even claimed by Scythe to not resonate the frequencies the human ear can detect most (which most fans DO resonate). Unfortunately you never know till you get them installed. Some have said these are so well balanced you can hold one loose in your hand while it's running and feel NO vibration.

@Kow,
Yeah, those Deltas you just bought were mentioned just recently. So you HAVE in fact brought them up before as I said and since you just verified again that you bought them, how can you imply I'm wrong that you don't mind using a loud fan brand?

Not saying you were wrong to buy them, it's just not something I'd prefer, and when someone implies you can't get accurate db specs, well, I'd rather get input from those whom have actually used fairly quite (under 30db) ones.

The hell are you talking about?
I haven't even seen the deltas I bought in person.
So how the hell could I say they're not that loud when I've never even seen them in person? Its not like I'm going to use those 70dba fans for daily use, you're gotta be kidding me. And just so you know, Delta isn't a loud-fan brand. They're an OEM for a ton of fan companies, chances are a fan in your system has a delta fan in it. They're more known for high-quality, not necessarily being high output.

The only fans that I've said that aren't that loud are panaflo's and San aces, and thats because I have a fan controller on them(although, even at full speed the panaflo's are pretty quiet).

Just because I buy high performance fans doesn't mean I haven't owned quiet ones. Yate loons of all types (which have extremely accurate noise ratings), low powered panaflo's, s-flex, GT, kaze ultras, various antec fans, silverstone, etc.
Name a fan company and theres a good chance I've owned a few fans from them. Most of which have bloated CFM numbers and db numbers (funny how a yate loon mid with identical specs pushes more air and is quieter than a s-flex with the exact same numbers)
