Is my monitor dying?
 

Is that plasma leakage? It feels warm when I touch it but it is not on the outside of the monitor.

Advice please.

If it's a plasma screen monitor, than it might be =p

Its an LCD screen. I said plasma by mistake. Still, should I be worried? I can't afford a new monitor at the moment.

If it's constantly like that, then it probably needs replacement. But of course there are still a few things to check. Make sure the cables have a solid connection as always.

I have checked this already. I tried both a VGA and a DVI cable. Both with the same result. I would try a HDMI cable but I don't want to get a converter just for checking if this is a issue or not.

(My graphics card has a HDMI connection on it which has so far, been unused).

cant you put up a monotone solid color, what you got there loks like a glowing ground flare during an attack and the leakage looks like clouds at night.
I will stick with CRT as long as possible, less waste, less energy to toss them away so soon,

In point of fact, that "glowing ground glare" is actually meant to be a sun, with the Destiny (ship from SGU) passing by it, but that is besides the point of this thread, lol. :lulz:

Here is a cleaer picture with just a flat blue background. It wouldn't show up on a white background too well.

If still under, warranty should cover this, if not, you're screwed.

Warranty wont cover water damage

Besides, 3yr old monitor wouldn't be in warranty still

It just seems to be an annoyance at this point. There is no sign of leakage anywhere else on the monitor, and it hasn't any further down so it's probably hardened in place. I don't see any dead pizels anywhere. But it's noticeable.

Plus, its a Dell monitor so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I would use my HDTV but that is already set up for my Xbox and Blu-ray player.

Is it worth investing in a new monitor?

And besides, some of the reviews are not great. Also, that doesn't really help with the problem at this moment.

can you squish it around,get a squeegy? squiejy? and squish it all back up, lol.

CRT for me,, good luck if you get a new one, I think I would be looking at second hand if it gets too annoying. (wich it will)

LG is Phillips, the ones I think that would be the best built LCD would be, Sharp. they been doing displays as a main part of there succes for years.

Hmm, looks like sharp is more for comercial than retail end user, but I would get an LED new style monitor.

When I get something I think it will be an ASUS, seem ok , but I have no clue on what is good these days.
I will go for a LED backlit of some type sooner or later.
