Re: Need help with new computer. LOL Red, Best Buy doesn't actually "give out" anything. When they first opened here they waxed on about how they don't work on commission like high end audio/video stores, such as Magnolia Hi Fi, which they'd already bought before they opened their first stores in my area. Now Best Buy employees don't talk about that anymore because by now many people are aware of how they DO get kickbacks. They get employee perks for selling lots of accessories and extended warranties, which are the items that have the highest markup in the store. When BB first opened here, Magnolia guys were saying, "Well, at least we don't have shopping carts in your way here". Sadly though, even Magnolia are stooping to the fast and furious ways of volume AV stores. Not so much in how they sell, but how they service. They are now going through the Geek Squad for warranty service. Oh it was a sad, depressing day when I heard that. Stores like Best Buy have literally ruined the quality and respect the AV business once had. |

Thank you. I've gone to Best Buy for my last 2 computers. I'll admit it's nice to just walk in and walk out with a new system, but I know I could have gotten more bang for my buck. I don't blame them for trying to sell me items that they get benefited from because that's their job. I just feel a lot better about buying the game rig Omen suggested because I know it will do it's job and it's affordable. Thanks for the advise though Red, and everyone else that has commented. I purchased the P55 today and am waiting for them to say I can go pick it up. I especially want to thank Omen for helping me as much as he did. |

you have it right. As for the computer I was just thinking the brand HP,Dell, ain't that bad as it used to be and still end up with an ok system. I have always built mine accept this time, just wanted to be a lazy stupid customer this time, and not "fix" or "build" anything, kinda relieving actualy. Plug it in, installed windows, boom, done:beer: |

Once the big name brands grew, their customer word of mouth spread all the faster too. So it is now imperative that they make sure all the parts they put into their systems work well. Years ago they had some disaster stories with bad HDDs and such, but they started learning reliability of partst is more important than being able to get huge quantities of them consistently. I think it's also that the big name brands have a large enough market share now that manufactures of parts produce more because of it, the Wall-Mart syndrome. It's appealing for those whom buy laptops or don't know how to build a desktop, but at the same time scary, because we all know what happens when huge retailers/etailers get too much power. |
