I would base it on the future, wait for price to get lower for DDR3, or think of using it on another new motherboard later on, or not plan on using the old ram for the future.
If you have the money get DDR3, if you don't, 4gigs is the better idea.
But uhh... you'll have to sell your motherboard and buy a new one too, because DDR3 isn't compatible with DDR 2 boards, and vice versa.
...and your CPU...and depending on the new motherboards slots, maybe your GPU...
and if you current motherboard doesn't have SATA...maybe your HDDS to invest in new SATA ones...
