I have been looking at this LCD for some time now. The LCD is great and will be my Photoshop LCD for texturing my 3D models with. I got the Best Buy credit card for free and have 18 months to pay off the amount interest free....so ya...sweeet.....:):)

Before you spring on this have you checked eBay or any other online site. With best buy 18 mouth plan you'll probably be paying a bit more then its actually worth ( $450). I would try to searching for deals first or pay it off immediately.

LED-backlit displays are pretty nice. My last two laptops have had them, and there is a noticeable difference when comparing it to the traditional CCFL-backlit LCD's of my desktop setups. The most obvious difference is sheer brightness; LED displays can be blindingly bright, which I like. Also, there's no "warm-up" to reach the full brightness when you first turn them on, unlike the old CCFL's. Once it's on, it's on all the way.

"LED" just indicates the type of backlighting. The display panel itself is still an LCD.

Older LCD's are backlit by CCFL's, cold cathode fluorescent lamps, which draw a bit more power, aren't usually as bright, fade over time, and take a while to warm up. LED displays are just LCD's backlit by light-emitting diodes instead of fluorescent lamps, allowing them to be a bit brighter, more power efficient, and thinner.

Just a question is this like the new televisions how they are saying ones led and the other lcd or is it the same as this monitor the tvs are just lit by different back lighting but the screens are not different in anyway?

Pretty much, yeah. There may very well be differences between individual LCD panels used in different TV's, but they are LCD's nonetheless.
Oh god no. A current OLED television costs in the thousands of dollars for a screen no larger than my netbook, and with lower resolution.

It's gotta be better than a CRT though, or at least our LCD looks a lot better than any CRT I've ever seen.

How could ANY TN be better than a CRT, unless it's a pretty crappy CRT you're comparing it to. CRTs have some tradeoffs yes, but not in image quality for the most part, unless you're talking fairly high end LCDs vs mere TNs.

TN screens are the same from one to another, all Twisted Nematic, but the PVA and IPS screens differ from them considerably. Most TVs use an SPVA screen, with vertically aligned liquid crystals. Some use IPS, with their crystals aligned in plane to one another.

Aside from the crystal structure itself, PVA and IPS screens differ from TN in color processing, where they have 8 bit depth vs 6 bit. IPS panels also have two transistors per pixel. PVA and IPS panels also have noticeably wider viewing angles, but only IPS offers wide angle viewing with no color shifting.

The LED backlighting CAN make a considerable difference in some ways. It's a brighter, purer light that makes images more vivid with little to no ill effect on color quality since it's pure white. It's very directional in it's output though, making it hard to use for edge positioning without uneven back lighting, even on smaller 32" screens.

Crt's are actually pretty good when it comes to visual work. At least the last generation of them, that were usually ultra flat and didn't have the thing that plagued crt's the most - bending.

Otherwise colour crispness, edge definition and contrast on CRT's is pretty awesome.

TN panels are fail, period. I had one for a day and it looked absolutely atrocious.

I have to agree for the most part. The only CRTs than i ever really liked compared to a LCD are the flat screen ones that junk angel mentioned. We had a couple at school which were fairly large in size (19-20" or somewhere like that) running at 1600x1200 and they looked beautiful.

LOL, now it's becoming clear why some rave about even TNs over CRTs. When LCDs started taking over, most CRTs HAD gone to the flat screen tubes. You'd have to be seriously living in the past to think of the old curved CRTs when comparing them to LCDs.

And to anyone thinking I'm still living in the past using a CRT monitor, I'll take my Trinitron flat screen Dell over a cheap TN any day of the week.

Well, that's all i had before i got my first LCD. And at the time, it was a improvement. Most of my stuff was old or second hand equipment until a couple years ago, i wasn't able to just go out and get a nice flat screen CRT. The newest CRT i had (which has since died) was made in '03.

I don't think i could go back to a little LCD anyways though after using my 32" LCD HDTV as my monitor for almost a year now.

Heh, my experience with CRTs has been with the old ones. I once had a new CRT... 5+ years ago. Next, I got a 24" Dell Trinitron monitor, which was getting very old, and had an absolutely hideous picture, so I eventually ended up 'upgrading' again to a possibly older monitor, which has a much better picture, but it is starting to degrade a bit.
