GeForce 8400 GS I saw this for $50 dollars at Office Max and i want to know how much of an upgrade this would be from and Nvidia 7050. Also does the 8400 come with dual monitor support. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS It has dual monitor support, and it's better than your 7050. But it's a waste of $50. If you want a gaming-friendly card, you're going to have go a little higher. You can find used 8800GT's for around that price, and those are excellent cards. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS I plan to get it in the summer and i only need it to make up for my 1.6 ghz |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS By the time summer rolls around, current graphics cards will be three full generations ahead of that 8400 GS, which was pretty crappy even when the 8-series was brand new. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS Oh wait, I think I know which one that is. That's that PCI version, which means that it's definitely not worth $50. |

Re: GeForce 8400 GS Get a 9600Gt, it's really worth the money, and easier to find than used 8800's. Make sure your powersupply has at least 400w, a PCI-e connector, and that your motherboard has a PCI-e slot. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS What games are you planning to play? And $50 for a 8400 is too much, newegg has them for $30. I think your best bet would be too look around eBay for a good deal. I just looked and there are a ton of 8800GT's going for anywhere from $50-70. |

Re: GeForce 8400 GS Quote:
Chances are if you didn't option for a good graphics card it might have came with something pretty crappy. A lot of pre-builts are like that. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS Quote:
Well, on my PC I have a 1.5 ghz core 2 duo. Its not that bad at all. I got an 8600, and it seems to run most games pretty well. But I would recommend that you get one of the newer cards like a 9600 because they will last you longer and give you better performance. If your looking for affordability, go for ATI cards. They are great as well. :) __________________________________________________ _________ The Soleutator Hehe, and you say you have a 1.6 Ghz CPU? I might be able to get away with that on low/lowest settings, and your rig looks like a big step down from that. My advice; start saving, you're gonna need a whole new setup _________________________________________________ I only have 1.5 ghz, and I can play left 4 dead 2 at medium/high (or all high) settings no problem. I only got 2 gigs of ram and an 8600 256mb as well. But can your motherboard support a 8400? You might want to check up on that. I know mine can only support up to an 8600, so that's what im keeping it at. Going to invest in a new system soon though.:) BTW I have seen 9600's for like 50-70 bucks around here, even the 1gb ones! Great deal for sure! |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS Amazon.com: EVGA 01G-P3-N959TR GeForce 9500 GT 1GB DDR2 PCI-Express 2.0 Graphics Card: Electronics I have decided to get this. Its cheap and newer than the 8400gs. |

Re: GeForce 8400 GS Yes. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS Thanks im gonna start saving for the 9500gt , |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS OMG, 70$ for the 9500GT?? Um...ok then... I paid 50$ for a new 9600GT, that was 6 months back, they can be had for 40$ now. Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GV-R467ZL-1GI Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards That'll shit on the 9500GT...and low and behold, is cheaper... If you don't get that, your crazy. Also, you'll have a chance of getting Medium graphics in Assasins Creed, albeit a small chance. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS A freaking 8800GT 256MB GDDR2 for $55 including shipping, from an eBay Power Seller with 99.5% positive feedback. DO IT. It'll eat up any of those cards. 256MB PNY GEFORCE 8800GT DUAL DVI GH8800GN1F26XPB - eBay (item 110497381313 end time Mar-21-10 23:19:04 PDT) |

I have ddr2 so im sticking with the 9500gt because i plan to upgrade my cpu and play newer games like TFU and upgrade my cpu so thanks to all and thatsa a good bargain for the 8600gt but i am gonna stick with te 9500 gt. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS Quote:
GDDR3 is good, the Graphics cards come with it, the only requirement graphics cards have is power supply, of which is a null point for such low-end cards. If you want to upgrade your CPU later, why not get the more powerful GPU now, for cheaper, then not have to worry about upgrade it again later when you do the CPU? Your wasting money on a low end card that is designed for nothing more then watching movies. Also, the 8600GT is better then the 9500GT... Why are you getting the 9500GT so badly? Its slower then other cards mentioned here and is over priced... Ohwell, its your money you're wasting, not ours, just dont complain when it doesn't do what you want |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS So will this Graphics Card Work on this(No making fun of my computer, I got it when it was cheap : $100) My Computer |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS No, sorry. If those are indeed your specs, then 1: that CPU will be a huge bottleneck (not even sure if it will run the GPU) and 2: your PSU doesn't have enough wattage. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS What is the best graphics card for those specs? |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS @ Nerd, Ignore the CPU bottle neck, he's upgrading it in the near future. The only issue is the PSU. Like I said 3 times now, get a 4670, its cheaper and more powerful then the 9500GT. Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GV-R467ZL-1GI Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GV-R467ZL-1GI Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GV-R467ZL-1GI Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GV-R467ZL-1GI Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS Computernerd, there's no such thing as a CPU that won't "run" a graphics card; they're two completely independent pieces of hardware. The main issue with that thing is the power supply. 250W just isn't much to work with. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS That's also $65 after rebate, plus $7 shipping. Not to mention before he gets the rebate he has to pay $10 on top of that. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS Like I said, 4670 :P Zamamee, it was still cheaper then the 9500GT |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS Im sticking with the one Phila said.Thread can be closed. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS Quote:
Probably a good choice. You can get a quad core for 100 bucks now as well if your having CPU problems (I think I saw someone mention a bottleneck earlier up there =p). Thats what im getting when I upgrade (or build new) my PC. I cannot afford 2000 bucks of gaming rig so if you want a new processor, I recommend this one. AnandTech: AMD Athlon II X4 620 & 630: The First $99 Quad Core CPU seems to be okay. I mean, 4 cores for 100 bucks! Good deal :) |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS If you don't want to spend a lot on good parts the best thing to do is get them used. Look around on other forums sale sections and on eBay, you'll be amazed at some of the deals you can find. Hell, i recently picked up a i7-860 and a Gigabyte P55-UD6 mobo used, and with the money i saved i could buy another i7.... |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS KK im getting this Radeon HD 4670 But i need a cpu thats compatible with the LGA 775.The quad core was good(Hundred bucks is f**king awesome) but not compatible with my motherboard which i dont plan to replace. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS There are plenty of quad-cores out there that are 775... You can get a Q6600 on eBay for $100 if you look around. Because it's eMachines, I really can't tell you for certain if it support 45nm quads, but odds are it would with a BIOS update, if it doesn't already. How are you so sure it doesn't? |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS Is this good for the price Amazon.com: INTEL BX80571E3300 Celeron Dual Core 2.50 GHz 800 MHz Socket 775 1MB Desktop Processor: Computer & Accessories And which one of these is the best buy and they are all compatible http://http://www.intel.com/products...core/specs.htm |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS Stay away from anything that has Pentium or Celeron in the name. The easy way to do this: give us the max. amount you want to spend on a processor, and we'll give you the best for the money. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS There's nothing wrong with the Pentium Dual-Core. It's just a low-end Core 2 Duo. I've been using a Pentium Dual Core E2200 (2.2GHz stock) for two years and have not had any trouble with it. I keep it overclocked at 2.93GHz (FSB from 800 to 1066MHz) |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS Oh I know, but if he's going for an upgrade he might as well go quad at this point. Especially since any good Pentium is going to be at least $60, he might as well save up the $40 and get a Q6600. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS Is this a good deal for $183 and can i get it for under $125 Q6600 |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz G0 SLACR LGA775 CPU - eBay (item 140385898813 end time Feb-28-10 15:25:22 PST) Look around eBay, if you're lucky you'll find a better one. Also have a look on Sale/Trade sections of forums. |
Re: GeForce 8400 GS $125 is decent for a Q6600. I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a 65nm quad, but its okay if you dont have any other options. |

Re: GeForce 8400 GS Just make sure your chipset and BIOS will support quad-core. I know plenty of boards that use Socket 775 LGA won't support Core 2 Duos, let alone Quads. |
