Usually a Google search of your motherboard model and "quad core support" will bring up some info on the matter.

Moving from a Celeron to a Pentium 4 isn't exactly the most cost-effective upgrade. Did you find out if your motherboard supports Core 2 Duos or Quads?

You don't need a floppy. As far as I know you can update through USB, and many motherboard manufacturers offer an automatic update method which doesn't require a floppy. In any case, you can just borrow a USB floppy drive off someone.

^Indeed. In the past 5 years, I have not seen a single motherboard BIOS that couldn't be flashed either via USB or through an executable in Windows.
