| Since mentioning my pet peeves about forum/net surfing in one of the threads in Gen Discussion, I have discovered you can in fact block those text pop-ups by Vibrant Media called In-Text Advertising. I haven't researched it much yet but some say they use the GreaseMonkey or NoScript addons for Firefox. What do you guys feel is the best script blocker for Firefox and which ones have you tried?

| I'm using NoScript for Firefox. I haven't tested any other script blocker, though. It's pretty useful and haven't had any problems with it so far. Not to mention that it does update regularly, so I guess I'm pretty safe when browsing. |

| OK, thanks for the input. I have checked a bit further and Adblock Plus seems to be their most popular download of this type of addon lately. In retrospect, I should have made this a poll thread. For the sake of not creating extra work for the mods though, I'll just make a running change in thread. What do you use for script blocking in Firefox? * Adblock Plus * Greasemonkey * NoScript * Other (please give name) It would also be helpful if you give reasons and/or pros and cons. Thank you

| Oh, I didn't know you'd count AdBlock Plus as well. I'm using both AdBlock Plus and NoScript. Don't ask me why, because I really don't know. I guess it was because I thought NoScript isn't blocking Advertisements, but I was wrong. In any case, I'm using both, although I've got NoScript for some time already, while I've installed ABP only recently. Adblock Plus may be the top download for Firefox, but Adblock Plus does not block any malicious scripts, as far as I'm aware. NoScript, on the contrary, does block scripts and advertisement. So yes, NoScript gets my definite vote. Spoiler: |

And that's where AdBlock can help : you can set rules using regular expressions to that whatever matchs that pattern will be blocked. Such as "/adverts/" which will block whatever item comes from an url which contains an "adverts" directory, whichever the domain is. You also may use it just to block someone's avatar that hurts your eyes. I never felt the need to use GreaseMonkey yet, though I know a guy who made some useful stuff with it.

| I just installed both NoScript and Adblock Plus a little while ago. Of the two NoScript is more useful. I can set it to Forbid Intellitxt.com and then I don't get the Vibrant Media In-Text ads popping up. I first tried blocking Intellitext.com via the Hosts file and it didn't work. I set it's notification pop-up bar to 1 second though, otherwise it bugs me.

| You can totaly disable the notifications, you'll just need to keep in mind that if something doesn't work on a page (especially flash animations and videos), it might be because javascript is blocked.
