as to getting more then 3.5ghz on a q8300 with its low multiplier wouldn't you think you'd hit the FSB wall quick on any decent MB. 3.5ghz stable is the highest I've heard is possible with only a heatsink/fan combo maybe with water cooling its another story.

No. any decent P35/P45/X38/X48 board should hit 500+ FSB extremely easily. I've gotten up to 538fsb thus far on my P5Q-E. You'll hit a FSB wall more easily on one of those chips before watercooling would even be needed. I've heard that alot of those chips max out at around 532fsb but ymmv.

Uh.. Dont worry about there being a bottleneck for now. Especially if you're going to get a new motherboard sooner or later.

On a side note about the original topic, I recently purchased a laptop and it came with the GT 230M 512MB graphics card. I have not been able to find a review of this card and was wondering if it is a decent card. I am not an intense gamer, so I don't need high end performance, but I would like to occasionally game if say...diablo 3 or starcraft 2 ever come out. My laptop is only 14'' but I have a samsung 226bw (native resolution: 1680 x 1050 ) I plan on connecting it to when I am at home. A couple more questions on this. The 230 has hdmi and vga outputs, would it be better picture quality to connect my laptop through the vga or through a hdmi to dvi cable? the monitor has vga and dvi inputs.
so...
-any thoughts/reviews about the 230?
-does the 230 support 1680x1050 output and would the picture be better with a vga or dvi cable.

thanks

Side note: try not to hi-jack someone else's thread, it's considered pretty rude.

I don't know how well the 230M performs, but it's probably not all that brilliant. Light games, modern, high-end games at lowest settings I'd think. From the specs, it looks like an underclocked 9500GT, which is not brilliant, but it'll play some stuff.

Yeah, it'll support 1680x1050. Every card now-a-days supports 2560x1600. If you can, a DVI cable is probably better, as it's newer tech, but really it doesn't matter. DVI supports 2560x1600, and VGA supports 2048x1536 but other than that...

A 230M is a decent card for certain, but still low end. A 230M will likely play newer games, but on lower settings. I imagine the upcoming Diablo 3 would run, but without most of the eye candy enabled.

For reference, my laptop's 3 generations old, low end Go 7400 256mb still manages to play some newer games for my kids like The Sims 3 and Lego Batman on lower settings. Yours should do much better.

As to the HDMI / DVI / VGA question, it really isn't going to be anything noticeable. Personally I like HDMI as it's a cleaner look to your workstation using that smaller cable (if your monitor had an HDMI input like mine does). May as well just use your standard video out (DVI or VGA port) instead of buying and/or using an adapter.

Regarding: NVIDA GeForce GT 230

Dear Wise men.
My local pc dealer have made me an offer for a HP DV7 3090EO,(VP989EA#UUW), Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit,
i7 720QM,6gb level cache, 1,6Ghz. 4Gb DDR3 Ram, 640Gb harddrive and ofc. GeForce GT 230 !! (HP

I'm not very good at this computer stuff, but is an i7 720QM processor better/faster than eg an ordenary P9400 ?

I have read all your comments regarding the NVIDIA GeForce GT 230 card. Will i also experience problems regarding drivers, heat etc. ? - The labtop is a presant to my son - and he do play a lot of different games.

Hope you can give me a quick answer.

Kind regards
Neffets from Denmark.
