Heatsink for i7 920
 

I hear that the stock heatsink that comes with the i7 920 is no good for overclocking. I don't plan on overclocking very high at first, but I know as I get more used to doing so, I will want to do it more. Thus I'll need a better heatsink. I've found Newegg.com - Vigor Monsoon III LT Dual 120mm Fan CPU Cooler Socket 1366 Ready - CPU Fans & Heatsinks but it's very big. Many of the reviews say it's great for overclocking the 920 to 3.x with 40-60C at load depending on how high. I don't know how tall the CPU+Motherboard (Newegg.com - ASUS Rampage II GENE LGA 1366 Intel X58 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards) is, so I don't know if it'll fit into this case:

8.3" width on the case, and that heatsink is probably about 6" give or take a few tenths. Should this fit, or should I get a smaller one? (I don't particularly want to change the case. It has 4 120mm fans and 2 140mm, so it's a pretty good deal for the price.)

Hmm... I don't see why it wouldn't unless it gets in the way of the PSU, but I don't think it will, so that cooler looks good.

In most cases, something like that should fit in Mid-Tower cases

Ok, that's good to know. Almost all of the reviews on there say its huge, so I don't know if it's made for a mid size case. I figured it might be more for full cases.

It should fit. I would suggest you get a TRUE instead since it will be much better suited for an I7 than that Monsoon.

Monsoon? :wtf: Also, why doesn't newegg sell TRUE fans? I can only find them if I search on Google.

I don't see any TRUE heatsinks on the egg. There's Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER V8 RR-UV8-XBU1-GP 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks but it's pretty similar to the other one. It has slightly less RPM's though.

Because thermalright sets prices and doesn't want them to change when newegg price gouging software kicks in. The best place to buy a TRUE from is Jab-tech customer service along the same lines as newegg. Not bad for a shop with 4 people working there.

When it comes to buying fans/ cooling hardware newegg is the LAST place you want to buy anything. Buy a TRUE and some yate-loon fans for much less than what you could get from newegg.

Maybe because newegg has horrible prices? And shipping is kind of outrageous. $7 shipping for a $10 fan? No thanks, I'll buy my five $2.50 yate-loon Lows from jabtech and get $4 priority mail shipping for less than one fan.
