I'm slowly selling my components off that use PCI and replacing them with PCIe 1.

This will allow me to run Crossfire Dual Slot Graphics Cards, while still having a PCIe TV Tuner, NiC (Onboards are dodging out on me) and a PCI Raid Controller.

The Controller im looking at is the Adaptec 2610SA (6 SataII c/ Raid 0,1,5,10,JBOD)
This controller uses a 64bit PCI Connection.

I'm quite certain that 64bit PCI connections work in a standard 32bit PCI slot, but I'm after confirmation on that.

Failing that, can anyone recommend a good Raid controller that uses PCI (or PCIe 1)

For reference the card I'm considering is...

Bah never mind.
64bit works with 32bit slots as long as they are the same voltage.
for example 3.3V 32bit and 3.3V 64bit work, as they have the same layout slot design just 64bit is slightly longer.

But my motherboard runs 5V 32bit, that card is a 3.3V 64bit.

Anyways, I've been looking into the Adaptec ASAR 3805-SGL-128

Price reasonably well, and definantly going to purchase it if it fits into the slots I have (PCIe 1x, PCI 5V)

Only tonight have I learn't how many damn'd PCI specs there are, but if Im not mistaken this PCI spec will fit into the PCIe 1x slots I have? (Small black pansy things on my Mobo?)

Well, according to the Wiki, PCI-E x4 has 64 pins, and is 39mm in length.

According to the Spec's on the motherboard in your sig, it only has PCI-E x1 slots.

That said, PCI-E is a fairly universal platform. In the link to the Wiki above, PCI-E x1 slots may be open ended, allowing a larger card to fit in a smaller slot.

As long as the card's ground, and what not are within the first 36 pins, your good. The card will be half out of the slot of course.

Looking at the layout on your board, you'd have to use the other 16x slot for the RAID card. You COULD use it on the 1x slot but then you run the risk of it not working properly since it would be limited to the 1x bandwidth.

He wants to run a Crossfire/SLI setup.

He has two 5V 32bit PCI 2.0 slots. Three PCI-Express 2.0 x1 slots. As well as two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots.

Unfortunately, the fans on his Crossfire cards may well take up one or two of the PCI-E x1 slots.

Which leaves.

2 PCI-E x16
1 PCI-E x1
2 PCI 2.0 5v

Not being very familiar with RAID, especially not controllers, I am at a loss. I have read that standard PCI 2.0 RAID controllers are no where near as efficient as PCI-E, or PCI 64-bit controllers.

Worse, I don't know how the voltage on PCI slots work. Which ones are compatible with which.

Anyways, I brought the controllers, one PCI Universally Keyed (3.3V and 5V) 4 Port SATA II 0,1,5,6,10,50,60 Controller, this one is more expensive and will host the OS array (Raid 5)
I then had to purchase another controller as it was to expensive and too difficult to find a single Universally Keyed PCI 8 Port controller.
The second controller is a PCIe 1x SATA II Raid Level 0 and 1 controller, which will host the array for installing Games and such on to.

Which leaves open Crossfire option later, and a final PCIe 1x slot for the WinFast 3200H TV Tuner I'll purchase.

I did a BIOS update last night in the hope it will correct the LAN ports which require me to reinstall drivers each time it plug in a cable.
