Getting a new CPU

I bent the pins on my AMD 3700+. Yes, stupid I know and I know you can bend them back sometimes but I was unsuccessful. So it's now stuffed.

Luckily, I ordered an X2 3800+ (only S939 one I could find).

I've got a couple questions about installing it.

When I've put the CPU in, will I have to do anything in the BIOS, or will it basically be a plug 'n' play sort of thing and BIOS will auto detect it?

Will I have to download a new BIOS version or anything?

Thanks.

By the way, my motherboard is an Asus A8N5X

Re: Getting a new CPU

Just make sure to do the thermal pasting and such.

The bios should auto-detect it just fine.

You may have to flash the BIOS to a newer version if yours is old, other than that, it should work fine.

How do I do that? Is it hard?

Anyone?

Sorry for the bump but I need to figure it out before I install it.

Re: Getting a new CPU

go to the asus website, look up your board, and find the latest bios version. Then use their software and do a flash. Some people might advise about doing a bios flash in windows, but just make sure you're not doing anything else at the time of the flash and promptly restart and you should be more than fine.

Re: Getting a new CPU

How would I do the flash in Windows though If I can't boot because I have the wrong BIOS version for the CPU?

I mean, if I can boot with the new CPU I'm not going to worry about the flash but if I can't boot I'll have to flash it. I won't be able to do it on Windows though if I can't boot.

Your board should be fine, no need to flash the bios.
