Default Tigerdirect..shipping internationally.

Hi guys, I could really use some advice from some experienced people.

Im planning on getting a new graphics card, Geforce GTX 260/280. Its only these 2 cards on the metre right now and it will probably only be those 2, so please keep the other ATI Radeon 4870 and stuff out.

I live in Sweden, and these cards are sold here but with a massive price. I thought about how it would be internationally and I checked some sites that allowed shipping to Sweden. I would definately buy one of these cards if Newegg had the feature but unfortunately they have not, so I stumbled upon Tigerdirect.

BFG GeForce GTX 280 Video Card - OC Edition, 1GB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0 x16, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, HDMI Support, VGA Support BFGEGTX2801024OCE at TigerDirect.com

Theres the card that I am probably going to get. Now I really could use some advice from you guys:

1. If I ship from Tigerdirect, how much will this card cost approximately including every single damn fee that adds to the normal price.
2. How long would it take? (I really don't matter as I just get the card in the end)
3. Would it work with shipping and everything you think?
4. Is it safe, and would you advise it?

Basically, I can get the GTX 280 for a cheaper price than 260 goes here in Sweden so I would aim for this if it would work definately.

Im quite sure that it would work with my motherboard (MSI MS-7255)

If you were in the same situation, would you do it? I'm quite of a moneysaver so I don't like spending an excessive amount of uneccessary actions.

Serious help would be greatly appreciated, and if someone ever bought from this site please post your experiences with them.

Not sure about their International practices, but TigerDirect is one of the better sites to buy from, maybe the best when Newegg isn't an option as well. I imagine doing business through them should be safe and reliable enough.

Seems like I havent got PCIe x16 2.0 so I have to consider my buy, if I am going for a new motherboard or what.

You don't need a 2.0 slot...it'll work on a normal PCIe X16 too...

He's right, it's all backwards compatible. The interface is slower but as far as I'm aware no graphics card can actually saturate a PCI-E 16x interface anyway, so it's irrelevant.

The only thing I'd watch out for is that you may have to pay tax, import fees etc. It's not the end of the world, just be aware that by the time you actually get the card home you'll probably end up paying more in total than the price of the product and s/h.

That is what I mentioned. With tolls and taxes and shipping costs I am afraid that it will get alot more expensive than it really is. And that they are using a company delivering it makes it even worse..thats why I asked for the final price as I have no idea about how many per cent the taxes and tolls are.

And yet your still looking at spending a stupid amount on a GTX 280?

I know you don't want to hear it, but honestly, there is no way the GTX cards are worth their price for the performance they give. The Radeon 4870 is just a few percent slower, yet only costs half the amount. Hell, you can even get a 4870X2 for probably less than a 280.

I almost think that I have a winner now..

EVGA GeForce GTX 260 896MB PCIe wDual Link DVI 896-P3-1265-AR at TigerDirect.com

Cheap, and I can overclock it to the prestanda as a 280 would perform.

This is how much as a 4870 costs and it does the job slightly better when overclocked (Yes I know the risks and the warranty and yadda.)

I dont want 4870 because I have certain applications that requires Nvidia, and I like Nvidia more (Yes Ive tried both).

Oh yay!
OverClocking a GPU is pointless, its not the clocks of the GPU that matter, its how many shader units it has, its interface bandwidth, etc etc.
Example:
OC an 8800GT to the same clocks as an 8800GTX, It will still perform worse, alot worse, because the GTX has a crap load more everything.

I got a whole...Wait for it...3 FPS extra when I OC'd my 8800GT to 750/1875/983

Stock clocks are 600/1500/900.
If you want better performance, your better off buying a cheaper (Everything wise) ATI card such as the 4870X2 or fork out the extra for a 280GTX

Either way, neither the 4 ATI series or 200/9 series nVidia cards are worth what they cost, both series are rather sucky compared to the hype that was around them, and both series are way to expensive for what they offer.
