And PLEASE don't try downloading the OMG HACKED DIRECT X 10 FOR XP patch.. it's a waste of time and will only cause you problems. Not only did it completely fail on my XP based system, it gave it the BSOD within 40 seconds of the installation. It was very unstable on mine and didn't do ANYTHING for me. Do yourself a favor, if you are REALLY into direct x 10.. just get vista.

it isn't like you have to lose out on xp... Just dual boot the system so that when and if it fails to play on vista you can just play it on xp and know it will work.

Default Re: DirectX 10 in XP?

If anything I would just stick with getting Vista to get DX10, more reliable. But even then, to get a whole new OS just for DX10? I had vista for a while, I liked it, but my games running in DX10 slowed down a bit other than running in DX9. So I went back to XP and bingo. Just wait until they come out with a better working DX10 for XP, thats what im waiting for

Actually, there will not be a DirectX 10 for XP, or at least not an official release from MicroSoft, unless they change their mind...

Well I ripped the .dll's out from it and it's been working amazing on all my games and I CAN see a difference. No errors or anything.

It won't run the same though. A benchmark actually showed Crysis ran 10 FPS faster on DX10 in Vista than on DX10 in XP. Maybe because Vista is optimized for it, while XP needs all the hacks.

The closest your going to get to XP with DX10 is Vista Basic. It has DX10 without all the extra frills like aero desktop and dreamscene, though those are pretty sweet.

Just go into the settings and set Vista to use Windows classic settings and Windows classic folders and it looks quite a bit like XP, still have to deal with programs being renamed.

Why do these threads keep popping up? I swear...it's like, once a week...MICROSOFT WILL NOT ALLOW DX10 IN ANY OS OTHER THAN VISTA.
period. end of story. There is absolutely no chance they are going to change their mind to support an old operating system like that.
Use the damn search button & you will find multiple threads on that.
Any improvement you THINK you are seeing is a placebo effect....you WANT it to work, so you THINK it has an improvement.
