Video cards on I440BX with FSB 133 Mhz Hello, I have this sort of problem: I have a Intel Bx based Gigabyte BX2000 MB and I want to upgrade my CPU from PIII750 to a PIII with 133 MHz FSB.Problem is that BX is not "naturally" working at 133MHz,thus PCI runs at 44 MHz instead of 33 and AGP at 89 instead of 66.For PCI there is a 1/4 FSB/PCI divider,so I can set PCI to work at 33.But for AGP there is not such divider, and from what I know there is no such 1/2 divider on any of BX motherboards. Question is: How is the video card working on an overclocked AGP bus? I have a Leadtek GeForce256DDR.I intend to buy a GeForce3,so if there is any of you which runs such a combination(BX133 & GF3) please send me some notice. Is it a stable combination? THKS |

At 133 you can set the PCI divider to 1/4 so that's no problem. There are few AGP cards today that have a problem with an overclocked AGP bus. Name brand Geforce cards all work fine, so does the Radeon from what I hear. 3Dfx cards don't care either. If you have any problem at all it'll be running at AGP 4x. On an overclocked system you should use AGP 2x. The slight difference in performance will be more than made up by overclocking the FSB. With Geforce cards I also recommend disabling sidebanding and fastwrites (NVTweak is the easiest way to do this). Performance difference in negligable, and the system will be more stable. ------------------ The Flying Penguin http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif http://TheFlyingPenguin.com [This message has been edited by FlyingPenguin (edited 06-07-2001).] |

Thank you for your answer.I am amazed that you,as a moderator, participate in discussions and post answers(which by the way should be normal). In the forums were moderators are my fellow citizens (I won't tell you the name of the country, anyway next year I'm going to leave it),moderators don't bother to give answers to the "stupid" guys who have problems. They are far to bussy. I'm going to become a fan of your forum. It is a decent one. Thanks. |
