Question about GPU temp and possible upgrade.

Ok, I'll keep it simple. Was looking around in nTune today, looked at my GPU temp, and it was @ 63' C. Okay, may not sound too bad, but this is an 8600GT while idling. I've seen reports of people with 8600 GT's @ 30'C w/ stock cooling AND an overclock. Is there an obvious reason mine is running so warm? (It's honestly not a big deal, as long as I'm <80'C, I'm happy).

Now, about the upgrade..

Was thinking about getting myself an Ati Radeon 3870 HD.
I saw one @ Newegg for about $150, and the talk of the town is that this card is the best out there now as far as price/performance goes.

Looking at benchmarks/statistics, I should see reasonable improvements in gaming.

Anyways, let me know what you guys think and thanks! :D

HA!
For bumping a thread that was only 5 minutes old, with no replies, I'm not going to provide my advice!
There is no reason to bump a thread with no replies, 5 minutes after you created it!!

LULZ.

Maybe the cooler on yo graphics card is wack.

Maybe the OCing has made it piping hot like tea.

My 8800GT idles at 40ish and yours should too or even less.

I would go for it.

Hell, even a HD 3850 would completely destroy any 8600 no problem. You would probably see at least double the framerate in some games with a 3870.

About your heat issue, my overclocked 3850 idles at about 40C, and goes up to 65-70C under load. That's with the stock cooler and the fan set to 80%.

a nvidia 9600gt will out perform a 3870 & is the same price.

^lol
9600GT = 5% faster then an 8600GT
8800GT = Cheaper + Faster then 3870HD (Atleast, tis for what I can buy it for)
