The Y2K Effect - evidence that it could have happend.

In a previous thread I mentioned that I had wanted to restore my old Micron PC so I could use it again. I ended up having to reset the BIOS so I could access the computer. When I first reset the BIOS I changed the date to April 27, 2008. I didn't edit anything else as it seemed to be in working order. Anyway windows 98 loaded and loaded for hours and eventually froze on the splash screen. I wasn't sure whether or not a virus had affected it or it was an issue with the BIOS. Since I didn't have any boot software at the time I decided to look at the BIOS. I checked through everything and all seemed to be ok. Then I figured 'why not' so I changed the bios date to April 28,1999. Sure enough the computer started and windows loaded no problem.
Is this unique or could it be evidence that Y2K could have happened? Anyone ever get an issue like this before?
I am using a Phoenix 4.0 BIOS from 1996-1997.

My uncle manages to use a PC Running Windows '98 for several days without any problem. May just be you but I'm not sure.

I've got a Windows 3.11 machine that works with 2XXX dates (including 2000 itself) just fine.

Who knows, it could be. After a google quicky, it looks like BIOS'es are far more likely to mess up the century if they're not on while the change happens. So yeah, could be because you never turned it on during 2000. Funny, hahah.

I had a old computer with a BIOS from before 2000, and it worked just fine when i got rid of it a few years ago.

Yes, but if you remember the hype about the Millenium bug it was that literally every computer on the planet would crash and be rendered unusable as soon as their clocks hit 2000. One machine with a buggy BIOS isn't quite the same thing.

But it did prove that the theory wasnt wrong.
