Overclocking GeForce2 GTS I have an AsusV7700(GeForce2 GTS) pure. I have overclocked it before with good results(3D Mark, mainly), but that was when I also had overclocked the Motherboard's FSB(Which isn't really good because then everything on it is oc'd) However, I just read that Flying P had nice results overclocking his GeForce. I have extra cooling on the card (its like a double fan thing) and I have 2 case fans. Anyway, I would like this video card to NEVER burn out. But I would like to OC it, also. There are 2 possibilities for OC'ing this card- the card itself and the memory. I have had the card at about 210 and the mem at about 350. What is safe for this card, considering that it has some extra cooling? |
I can't give you specific figures, but the Asus cards have a lot of extra cooling built in and overclock well. They also use good quality components. Memory clock makes more of a difference than core clock, but both together compliment each other. The best thing to do is try to get some idea of what other V7700 owners are O/Cing at and use that as a reference. Don't immediately try to OC to a real high setting. Start conservative. Knock 10% off the average clock speeds people report they're running it at and start there. Then bump each clock up 5 Mhz at a time and play a long game (at least an hour) and see if it's stable. Anything happens back both off 5 Mhz and leave it there - maybe running up just one or the other seperately to see if you can get a bit more out of one. The Geforce will usually give you warning when you're pushing the limit. If you push the memory too hard you'll start seeing improperly colored textures and eventually lockups if you go higher. Pushing the core too hard will lead to lockups. I have a Geforce1 (Asus V6800) so I can't give you clock speeds that will apply to you. ------------------ The Flying Penguin :) http://TheFlyingPenguin.com |
I'm going to leave it running a little above stock for now (Save the OC'ing for DoomIII, etc.) because I realized that I really don't need to push my system to get good performance right now. (Giants not installed currently, hehe) I also cannot afford to have a problem with any components, either. But I would still like to know what the safe zone is for me. Here's my system parts (relevant ones, anyway) PIII800EB Abit BF6 GeForce3 GTS 330 MB 133 SDRAM @Cas2 WinMe Dx 8.0a ------------------ If you can read this you are too close. |
Thanks, Flying P- Wow that was a quick response! So, does anyone have a GeForce2 GTS OC'd? What's your clock speed and mem speed? |
