Disable AVG anti-virus?
 

I exit it and everything but it is still enabled. I am trying to install something and have done everything. I have uninstalled it. And then I can use install the program. So I know that's the problem. Don't ask why I need it disabled or any of that. So how can I act as if it was uninstalled? Thanks.

That was the best info I found, I don't have the program so I'm not to sure, but, you can also disable the program from running by eliminating the process in task manager, then re-opening it when you want and the process will start right back up...

When you say you exit it, are you right clicking on the taskbar icon and clicking Stop On-Access Protection? When you do that the taskbar icon should stop spinning and show a red minus symbol on it, which means it's non essential functions are shut down, being it's web ad mail scanning features which are it's browser and email real time protection features. The bulk of it's resource usage will still be used, which is ashServ.exe, which uses around 17MB of RAM on my system.

It is not recommended you shut that down. However, if you game offline like I do, you can use a program like FSAutostart and configure it to shut down all background programs and non essential services, some of which will effectively shut down your net connection. I would not recommend shutting down ashServ.exe when your net connection is active though. You can do that via Task Manager as mentioned but the problem with that is you may forget to re-enable it.

I highly recommend FSAutostart, it was written by Ken Salter and originally packaged with MS Flight Sim 10, so it's trusted by MS. It is now a free stand alone program. It has a nice easy to use help feature that recommends what to do with each system service and only needs be configured once. I've been using it for gaming for some time now. In the intro scene of HL2 where the G Man is talking it stutters quite a bit, but with FSA running I hardly get any stuttering there at all. It can also force idle tasks to run (like Sys Restore) before you launch a game and defrag your RAM. In fact it's the best RAM defragger I've used. On average it frees up 100MB-200MB of RAM on my 2GB RAM system.

Just kill any tasks with "avg" in the name in task manager. If you're going to be doing it a lot, write yourself a batch file.

taskkill /im tasknamehere.exe /f

Type that into a text file, save, and rename the extension to .bat

It should... that's what I always use.

Right, I've attached my batch file that I always use. It shouldn't make anything crash, as it works fine for me, and I know for certain it disables AVG.

Note: rename to .bat
