Intel Core 2 QUADz0r?

Dear Gaming-bots,

I have a question! I saw a Intel Core 2 Quad processor (2.4ghz) second hand for £150 at CEX, and was sorely tempted to purchase it! However, I gots me a problem firsts... Basically, my motherboard is fried, and my computer has been out of commission for a very long time. The processor was a good ol' Pentium 4 3.0ghz thingy with prescott something or another. Anyway, to get this Quad thingy, I'm gonna obviously need a new motherboard, cos 1 - mine is fried, and 2 - my current one wouldn't be able to handle it even if it was working, and 3 - its fried.

Anyway, I'm poor, so i have no money (hence being poor), but if you can find it in your hearts to give me some monies, or perhaps offer some advice on a suitable motherboard for a low-budget poor man, then it would be greatly appreciated =).

Thank you for your time and possible money or advice.

Yours faithfully

Probably. Anyway, bear in my mind, when you buy a new motherboard, you need to install the OS again, so do you have your XP or whatever disc? Also if you give us a price range and all the feats you require in the motherboard, then the boys can hook you up big style. Soon you'll be as pimp as this guy.

Yes, I want to be him!

My price range is £350 sterlings.

I have XP and everything, so no worries there =). Just needs a new mother board and processor really. Although if i can, would love to be able to slip in a bit o' computer case, because mine doesn't have any walls, much like my house.

Well, my mumboard has gotta have capabilities to allow upgrade of DDR2 800mhz Ram (only have DDR 400mhz 512mb available at the moment, but that's for next pay check!).

I also wanna be able to have that uber GFXCARD I WAS REFERRING TO.

However, thats it.

If you could, just tell me what i want, cos i dont know lol.

Ps. with my second paycheck, i need to be able to hack into the CIA mainframe. What else will i require? Apart from fingers.

sort of on the topic of Quadcores, are they good for gaming? I was told that more than one processor can lessen the awesomeness of awesome games, is that true or do I just need to optimize it?

Re: Intel Core 2 QUADz0r?

I heared the opposite lol.

I dunno about with games specifically, but i know its generally PWNAGE.

I know how a processor and how all the components in a computer quite well, from computer science lol.

However, i dont have a clue about all these brands and such lol.

Nah, C2D's are optimized for gaming and will do just fine for the moment. So what do you need to buy again? RAM, Mobo, Case, CPU?

Re: Intel Core 2 QUADz0r?

Fucking irritating spelling aside, you won't be able to use 400MHz DDR RAM ina Core 2 Duo/Quad system. If you're upgrading from an older P4 and a wrecked mobo then you'll need to buy the processor, motherboard and RAM all at once. If you can't afford it all now then either buy a cheaper processor or wait.
