Geforce2 MX and OpenGL in Halflife...

Hi there...

I bought Asus V7100T and have some problems. The main concern is that I have no texturing of some objects (people, creatures) in HalfLife when run in OpenGL mode.

This happens regardless of the drivers I use and ONLY in HalfLife (game-specific issue?).

The other problem, also with OpenGL is that I have some flickering of some textures (i.e. they disappear for a moment, so I can see through the wall, and then appear again). This happens in HalfLife and Soldier of Fortune, however I have seen it in other OpenGL thingys as well. This error is not so consistent, i.e. it appears and disappears as I reinstall drivers.

None of this errors appear in Quake2 (which is also OpenGL, isn't it...).

I use either Asus drivers 5.33, nVidia 6.3x of nVidia 7.17. I also use DX7a or DX8.

Any ideas?

PS. Is that normal that DX8 shows no DirectDraw acceleration (it does not exist) and crashes when testing for it, while it actually works fine???

PS2. Could you also send me an e-mail with the answer? No Inet at home... :-( My e-mail is myself@gregu.cjb.net. Thanks a lot!!!

I'd uninstall Dx8 using the Ebrink uninstaller: http://www.ebrink.com/dxun/Direct.htm

and re-install Dx7.0a: http://mssjus.www.conxion.com/downlo...US/dx7aeng.exe

Dx8 is not properly supported by NVidia drivers yet and is causing a lot of problems (as a new Dx always does). You don't need to install Dx8 until you install a game that requires it, and the only one I know of is Mechwarrior 4.

Fair warning, backup your registry before uninstalling Dx8.

Use ONLY the latest NON BETA NVidia Detonator reference driver (6.31): http://www.nvidia.com/products.nsf/h...etonator3.html

It should work fine with the 6.31 driver assuming the card's not defective and the AGP bus is setup properly.

Some other suggestions:

- If you upgraded from another video card, make sure that no utilities for the old card are installed or are running in the background.

- If you have a 3Dfx card before and you were using the WickedGL miniport, uninstall it.

- DO NOT enable AGP 4x - many mobos don't support it properly.

- In BIOS, make sure "AGP Aperature" is set to the default of 64, "Assign IRQ to VGA" is enabled, and both "Video Ram Shadow" and "Video BIOS Caching" is disabled.

- If you're over clocking either the CPU or the vid card, don't and see if it corrects the problem.

- Make sure your AGP bus clock divider is set properly.

Hope this helps...
