That won't fix his problem. If you would be so kind as to read the update that you posted and his problem, you will see that they are caused by two different things.

Your's fixes a problem when Hhctrl.ocx tries to load before the user32.dll does; his is a problem deals with the shell32.dll.

Also, if he uses automatic updates, in any form, he would have already gotten this. And that update does not deal with the particular program that he has installed.

To: Orpheo, if you already uninstalled it and the problem still persists, the only thing you can do is repair the original file.

If you would be so kind as to read the link that I posted and his problem, you will see that they are in fact relevant.

Quote:
Certain programs may not start after you install security update 925902 (MS07-017) and security update 928843 (MS07-008) on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2).
Quote:
You may receive a similar error message that references Shell32.dll when you run AVG Anti-Virus Control Center from Grisoft, Inc. This problem occurs if you are also running BricoPack Vista Inspirat from CrystalXP. To resolve this problem, uninstall BricoPack Vista Inspirat.

Note This is not a problem with AVG Anti-Virus Control Center or with Windows. This problem is not resolved when you install update 935448.
KB 935448 is on topic and relevant. If the measures Microsoft suggest in the article are ineffective then as MS07-017 caused the problem removing it should resolve the problem.

If you would be so kind as to read the entire thing, then you would see that Microsoft says that in his case, all he needs to do is uninstall CrystalXP, and as for the 925902 (ms07-017) only affects certain programs... not CrystalXP.

Also note at the very end of the page under Technical Revisions

The following changes were made to this article:
Updated the "Cause" section to remove AVG Anti-Virus Control Center (made by Grisoft, Inc), and BricoPack Vista Inspirat (made by CrystalXP), from the list of affected programs. Microsoft has confirmed that these programs are not affected by this problem.
Added a "Similar problems and solutions" section to document a similar problem with AVG Anti-Virus Control Center (made by Grisoft, Inc), and BricoPack Vista Inspirat (made by CrystalXP).

No, your quite Right. I should have typed 928843 instead of 925902, my mistake. As I suspect your going to say something along the lines of "thats not what the article says" I thought I would explain my reasoning.

This is the error message he's getting:-
Quote:
The system DLL shell32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\Windows\System32\Hhctrl.ocx occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.
The knowledge base article states under cause of the problem:-
Quote:
The Hhctrl.ocx file that is included in security update 928843 and the User32.dll file that is included in security update 925902 have conflicting base addresses. This problem occurs if a program loads the Hhctrl.ocx file before the program loads the User32.dll file. Microsoft has confirmed that this problem affects the following third-party applications.
It further states:-

Quote:
You may receive a similar error message that references Shell32.dll when you run AVG Anti-Virus Control Center from Grisoft, Inc. This problem occurs if you are also running BricoPack Vista Inspirat from CrystalXP. To resolve this problem, uninstall BricoPack Vista Inspirat.Note This is not a problem with AVG Anti-Virus Control Center or with Windows. This problem is not resolved when you install update 935448.
So while not identical this problem is probably similar, appearing when Hhctrl.ocx is loaded before shell32.dll, as that seems to be whats described in my last quote.

My guess is that uninstalling security update 928843 would revert the Hhctrl.ocx file to a different base address that dosen't conflict with the other BricoPack Vista Inspirat from CrystalXP. This is the same guess I tool with last FM, with the substitution of 928843 for 925902. Basically the only way of seeing if it is the problem is trying it.

No, it may not work even then. However, I think there is a very good chance it will.

If you do want to uninstall BricoPack then these steps are required:
Quote:
- If for X reasons your machine not work with the first boot following the installation of the pack, you can restore your system: Put your CD of XP in the reader and launch the restore console. Type "R" at the invites setup. You have the console with prompt "the c:\WINDOWS >", type: "BATCH BricoPackUninst.txt". Type EXIT when the operation finished.

There are three ways you could easily uninstall the program.

1) You could go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and Highlight CrystalXP and then click Remove.
2) You could use the uninstaller the program provides by clicking the link in the Start Menu group (Provided that it shows the link).
3) If you cannot use step 2, you could try to find the program's uninstaller through the Program Files folder, just look for it in the CrystalXP folder, could be hidden in some subfolders. More than likely, the uninstaller in an executable file with "un" somewhere in the name.
