.dll/theme related error

I recently installed a theme.. or visual style.. whatever.. for XP. It worked this time (I've had lots of trouble with this in the past), but now Last.fm doesn't work (Last.fm is a music player that streams music). When I start Windows, and every time I try to start Last.fm.

I don't know what this means, I searched for user32.dll, and it is in the system32 folder, so I don't know what this means or how to fix it. So far, Last.fm is the only thing that has... not worked. Any help is appreciated greatly. I love Last.fm.

first thing i would do is remove the theme (might have corrupted something, are you sure its from a good source?)
next try it, if you're still getting that error i would try repairing the windows files
put in your xp cd, and boot from it, next hit 'r' for repair, select your version of windows you want to work on (as long as you dont have a dual boot it will only give you one option) next enter the administrator password if it asks
now type in the following command
chkdsk c: /r
this will run the standard check disk (which normally is a waste of time because it usually says "found errors" and doesnt do anything
however with the xp cd in and the /r command if it finds errors if it can it fixes them with the files off the disk

hopefully that should work, or at least its a good place to start

KB935448

If that fails remove hotfix ms07-017 and then reboot and it *should* fix it.

Tried reinstalling Last.fm?

I've only ever had one bad experience with adding themes to XP, and that was with one that completely killed the default themes, and wouldn't work right itself. That left me having to reinstall windows, a repair install wouldn't fix it.

A good place to look for some themes is on DeviantArt. Lots of high quality stuff there.

The first thing I did was reinstall last.fm lol. Actually, it said it wasn't able to uninstall everything.. but anyway, it didn't help. I also tried the link, which didn't work either. And I actually *just now* noticed the second part of your post lol. But I do not see "ms07-017", and I can't tell if you mean "ms07 through ms017" or if that's the file name.

I may try the Windows cd fix soon...

I believe that the ms07-017 means the Security Update 925902.

In order to remove it, go to Add/Remove programs and the make sure that the Show Updates box is checked, then go down to Windows XP - Software Updates and find the 925902 file and remove.

Yeah, thats the related update. Its worth reading the security bulletin so you know what your potentially vunrable to by removing it.

I would recommend using adblock and adding *.RIFF, *.ANI, *.cur and *.ico to your block list, that would prevent exploitation of the only remote critical vulnerability. As the rest require local access IMO they don't present a huge threat.
