Quad-SLI: Technical prowess, but ineffiecent?

Maybe I wasn't clear, by Quad-SLI, I meant 4 video cards running in tandem. The 7950GX2 everyone is talking about is just 2 videocards sandwiched together into one....

Well thats exactly what the 9800GX2 will be. And yes, it is running in tandem even though it is only two slots. They still have SLi bridges and render the same way a machine with 4 cards in 4 slots would run. I highly doubt that it will ever come to 4 running in four slots, because of the space on one board it would require, not to mention power consumption....

Whatever happened to the idea of making things smaller and powerful? It would be like having a modern day machine the size of your room. four cards are wayyy too much.

Yes n88tr, as Rob said two GX2s (or two ATI X2 VGAs) is still quad SLI, even though you only plug into 2 slots. Nvidia doesn't even offer quad SLI via 4 slots yet. Where it gets complex is in the driver writing. Personally I find it odd that Nvidia is still trying to resurrect quad SLI even though 3-way SLI using 3 slots is just in it's infancy.

And Videoslave, I was saying that owner reviews are often more trustworthy than review sites and magazines, as long as you toss out the ridiculous rants of course. I'm not sure you got my meaning there.

Yes, Omen is right, owner reviews are more trustworthy, but they can also be far off from people who don't know anything about computers. I hear people complain about drivers all the time, and all they ever tried was the ones on the disc that came with the product. I ALWAYS download the NEWEST drivers for any product. Not to mention people go to the manufacuterer of the card's website, and not the chipset. You don't go to ASUS to download drivers for nVIDIA chipsets, ect... They tend to not be the most up to date.

Websites and magazines can be very bias, so that is why its good to get multiple opinions. I never base my judgements on one website, I go all over the place. Although guru3d tends to be pretty truthful, I admit, tomshardware is the one that seems to be a bit....bias. Its a matter of sorting out fact from fiction. Take english courses that include lessons in bias, if you have trouble doing this yourself.

Oh sorry saw it backwards lol.

Anyway I personally think all this SLI and Crossfire is pointless and are notthing but a waste of money and stress becuase sometimes games don't support it.
I remember when SLI first came out nvidia was boosting that you get twice the FPS witch we all know isn't true even to this day.

Actually only SLI needs games to be written for it. The Supertiling mode of Crossfire, which is the mode most commonly used, does not require games be written for it.
