Default Win2k and Quake 2. HELP ME!

I just installed Windows 2000 recently and everything runs good or great except a couple or programs I use frequently. Quake 2 is my primary concern. Other OpenGL games (Quake3) and hardware accelerated games run perfectly. When I try to run Quake 2 in openGL it kicks me out of the program saying something like "Error: InitOpenGL failed; swapbuffer failed". I'm using the newest NVidia drivers. When I use the default RivaTNT2 drivers that coime with Win2K I get a different error. Now it saids "Quake2.exe has generated errors and will be closed... An Error log is being created."
Can anyone help me? Have you encountered this problem? Keep in mind I've talked to others who run win2k and play Quake2, so its not the new operating system. And OTHER OpenGL and hardware games work perfect.
What is going on!?

Please help
