Wtf is with my dvd burner Ever since I got my new computer, my DVD+-RW that performed flawlessly on my crappy e-machines cant seem to read blank CDs/DVDs/anything. It reads discs with data on them, burned or not. But with blank it just says "INSERT A DISC IN D:/ DUR!" ...so what the hell how do fix this |
why do you want to read blank discs?? Can you write them?? |
Check for driver updates, does Windows actually recognize that it can burn? |
Right-click on the drive in question, go to the 'Recording' tab and make sure that 'Enable CD recording on this drive' is ticked. If that isn't it will only ever try to read. If that tab isn't there it means that windows doesn't recognise that the drive can burn CDs. If that is the case you'll want to check drivers, firmware, and if that CD drive can actually burn CDs. |
I cant burn discs if I cant read them... duh. Yes, its a DVD burner, +-, this thing was fucking amazing and now i cant use it. But to the last post, I dont see arecording tab anywhere, where do I right click this? (Im running vista ultimate 64) |
Click into your "My Computer" and make sure that it recognizes the drive correctly, just cause you know it can burn, doesn't mean windows does. It should look something like this... Spoiler: The Fact that it says my DVD drives are DVD-RW and DVD-RAM, shows that windows correctly recognizes them. Other than that, look in your device manager, pull down the DVD/CD-ROM Drives tab and make sure that everything looks correct, if there is an exclamation mark above the drive, that would explain why it isn't working correctly. |
it's the drivers |
Okay, its the drivers but Icant find a place to get them. It's a Samsung TS-H552B DVD+-RW... cant find anything. Can anyone help out? *EDIT* I downloaded two drivers, but they're .bin and MagicISO/powerISO cannot open them. What gives |
Have you tried Samsung's site? And where did you download them in a .bin format? Here... This is straight from Samsung's site, hopefully that will fix it for you. download center SAMSUNG |
Thanks! ...But it didnt work. I have Vista ultimate x64. I opened it as XP Sp2 and installed, then reset. Nothing. |
Hm. I tried more drivers and the same thing. What could I do to this thing to make it work? The driver was so weird, I had to run an .exe, load the driver through it, connewct online nad "download" it... after I already did. Yet nothing. |
Have you tried uninstalling it in the device manger and then letting Windows detect and install it? |

Re: Wtf is with my dvd burner To be honest, I have no idea about any other forums. However, I've been looking for stuff on the drive, and I hate to say it, but I don't really think that the drive is made for Vista. All of the drivers and firmware updates I've found are all still XP. So you may be out of luck. However, I have one last question before you give up here. Are you trying to use Microsoft's burning system within Windows, or are you trying to use a program like Nero? If you're trying to use Windows, for a lot of the cases on the internet about this drive, most people fix it by using the burning software. |
Re: Wtf is with my dvd burner You keep saying you have Vista Ultimate 64, ever think that there is your problem? |
Re: Wtf is with my dvd burner WINDOWS...when are they gonna get it right....XP is a great OS, vista has been a pain in the butt....I'm using Vista Business right now and it's not all that it's cracked up to be... All hail XP PRo.....:bows: |

But let us forget the statements of Windows, and try to figure out this guy's problem. |
Re: Wtf is with my dvd burner Thanks for the defend, Load. ...Gross name lol Anyway, to answer all your last questions: No. This thing worked FINE when I had Vista Ultimate installed on my shitty eMachines. In fact I just plugged it in after reformatting and BAM! lasted 3 more formats with NO problems whatsoever. About burning, I cant get WMP to work, Im downloading nero now. |

But, i think Vista has some good points to it, its better at managing several internet pages, it comes with a pop-up blocker, it can stop programs self installing themselves (such as viruses, key loggers, people maybe planting something into your computer) and ask you if you want to allow or not allow it to do so. I think Vista has taken a turn for the safety/ease side rather then the technical side. |

Re: Wtf is with my dvd burner Nero works! ...But nothing else, unfortunately. I guess that means Ill have to buy Nero for this? I have a trial |
Re: Wtf is with my dvd burner That's what I expected. Yeah, you'll probably have to buy Nero. Nero 6 is most likely the best choice. I've tried 6 and 7 and 6 was a lot better. IMO. If the trial is just basic software, then you should be alright. If it is timed, then you may need to buy it. |
