Hm. I tried more drivers and the same thing. What could I do to this thing to make it work? The driver was so weird, I had to run an .exe, load the driver through it, connewct online nad "download" it... after I already did. Yet nothing.

Have you tried uninstalling it in the device manger and then letting Windows detect and install it?

Yeah. I have Vista x64 Ultimate so I go to Computer > System > Device Manager. I uninstalled it, but ...it's not working. Weird how I did this before, and then Vista was like "yeah, I found something" and it got it, but just in the condition it was still in. Now when I uninstalled it and restarted my computer, it doesn't auto-detect it at all. Sucks! I can't get it to detect... man, no offense to everyone here, I mean you guys are smart, but is there another forum I could go to that the people would be able to figure out right away? Or faster?

Re: Wtf is with my dvd burner

To be honest, I have no idea about any other forums. However, I've been looking for stuff on the drive, and I hate to say it, but I don't really think that the drive is made for Vista. All of the drivers and firmware updates I've found are all still XP. So you may be out of luck.

However, I have one last question before you give up here. Are you trying to use Microsoft's burning system within Windows, or are you trying to use a program like Nero? If you're trying to use Windows, for a lot of the cases on the internet about this drive, most people fix it by using the burning software.

People, please stop complaining until you have experienced the history of Windows and all other OS. Any OS is going to have problems at first, it doesn't matter who it is, Apple can have problems, it's just the fact that they haven't come out with a "new" OS in quite a while. XP had its own problems when it first came out, and over the course of a few years and two service packs, they finally came close to getting it right. The only reason that XP is stable is because the people who actually take their time to learn about the quirks and take the time to customize the environment. Windows is a very good company (If you know something about computers) and the only OS that I have ever seen that doesn't come close to being good, is ME.

But let us forget the statements of Windows, and try to figure out this guy's problem.

Thanks for the defend, Load. ...Gross name lol

Anyway, to answer all your last questions:

No.

This thing worked FINE when I had Vista Ultimate installed on my shitty eMachines. In fact I just plugged it in after reformatting and BAM! lasted 3 more formats with NO problems whatsoever.

About burning, I cant get WMP to work, Im downloading nero now.

lol, remember DOS... oh boy... trying to play games... that was fun

But, i think Vista has some good points to it, its better at managing several internet pages, it comes with a pop-up blocker, it can stop programs self installing themselves (such as viruses, key loggers, people maybe planting something into your computer) and ask you if you want to allow or not allow it to do so. I think Vista has taken a turn for the safety/ease side rather then the technical side.
